He studied under Pierre Curie and later became Marie Curie's lover. The methods of treatment are noted, including a consultation with Rafael Sagaz and other physicians. The concluding poetical tribute narrates the gratitude of the patient, a household merchant. He is best-known for experiments on the heating effect produced beyond the red end of the solar spectrum reported in the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society in 1825 and 1826. He also investigated the dispersion of light which he used to support the wave theory as treated by Cauchy. One of three sons of a second marriage, he displayed superior talents as early as primary school; but his education was placed in question when he was twelve by the death of his father. In 1817, however, he was accepted as a pupil at the St. Jacob Scottish Foundation in Regensburg. He never saw his family again. In Regensburg, Lamont studied primarily German, Latin, and Greek, but was particularly fond of mathematics. He studied the works of Euler and other classics in the original languages. Six doctors make the case for building a new medical clinic at l'Hotel-Dieu de Paris intended to serve all the hospitals of the city. Joseph Claude Anthelme Recamier (1774-1852) and Marie Antoine Petit (1762-1840) have been identified by the Wellcome catalogue as having signed the document. Louis Cyprien Piot de Montaigu, whose name appears first on the list of doctors signing this document, was an associate of Jean Baptiste Langlois, with whom he contributed one known piece; otherwise RLIN shows nothing written by him. Charles Bonnet wrote about tapeworms in 1743. Helminthiasis is often the result of poor sanitation as worm eggs contaminate the soil and are thus transferred to humans and other animals. Erichsen "studied medicine at University College, London, and at Paris, devoting himself in the early years of his career to physiology, and lecturing on general anatomy and physiology at University College hospital. In 1844 he was secretary to the physiological section of the British Association, and in 1845 he was awarded the Fothergillian gold medal of the Royal Humane Society for his essay on asphyxia. In 1848 he was appointed assistant surgeon at University College hospital, and in 1850 became full surgeon and professor of surgery, his lectures and clinical teaching being much admired; and in 1875 he joined the consulting staff.
