London: Elkin Mathews, 1905. First Edition. A sharp copy of Firbank's first book, the publication of which he financed himself. "Odette is a pastiche from Firbank's reading of Francis Jammes, a tale of the power of an innocent, believing child who, in her search for the "Holy Mary," saves a harlot from suicide. Its setting is a saccharine version of St. Symphorien, all flowers and birdsong, a romantic château, and the distant towers of the cathedral...purple in the setting sun" (Benkovitz, p.52). In A Study in Temperament, he tells of "an attempted seduction which has less importance to the lady involved than the color of her hair. Cuscaden on the title leaf, which corresponds to a brief holograph correction in text: "Note p.5 / We need poems!! / R.R.C." Modest external wear, subtle toning and dust-soil to wrappers, with tanning to text, a brief editorial correction to Bukowski's poem on p.20, and some shallow nicks to right edge of terminal leaf; Very Good+. Contains the first appearance of two Bukowski poems - "I Live Too Near The Slaughterhouse" and "When Hugo Wolf Went Mad" (the latter published later that year in EPOS). Missed by Dorbin.

Glenn Jr." Seven-digit serial number printed along upper right margin, with corresponding numbers typed on verso, directly above the following statement: "Project Mercury Astronaut. John H. [Glendale, CA: Roy A. Squires, 1971. First Edition. Distinguished copy of this Melville-inspired poem, inscribed to Bradbury's long-time editor and literary agent Don Congdon. Bradbury was one of Congdon's first clients, after he left his job at Simon & Schuster in 1947 to set up his own agency. It was Congdon to whom Bradbury dedicated Fahrenheit 451, and who negotiated the publication of some of Bradbury's best-known works. A superb association. A superlative copy of the Nobel Prize winner's masterpiece, and likely the most widely-read Spanish language novel aside from 'Don Quixote.' The present example is a review copy, with the publisher's typed slip laid in; the slip differs from other Harper & Row review slips from the same period, in that in states "IMPORTANT: please note that this is UNCORRECTED PROOF." Also laid into this copy is a brief, one page typed letter from Harper & Row publisher Cass Canfield, Jr. to Dr. Howard B. Gotlieb, former Director of Special Collections at Boston University. The letter is dated 21 October, 1969 - some four months prior to publication of the book - and mentions the enclosure of an advance proof of 'One Hundred Years of Solitude.' It isn't lost on us that the copy these materials came to us in is not an uncorrected proof (of which we presently know of exactly 2 copies). First (and likely only) issue of this poetry magazine published by The Unitarian Universalist Society, perhaps better known as 'The Onion Church.' The Onion was a Unitarian church where the first Los Angeles acid trip was held in 1966 - free LSD, The Grateful Dead, Neal Cassady, Wavy Gravy, and the Merry Pranksters (minus Ken Kesey). Although he wasn't present for the occasion, Tom Wolfe immortalized the scene in The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test. The Onion was otherwise a place of historical significance in Los Angeles, serving as the hub for a number of anti-war protests. A valuable piece of hippie history containing poetry by various contributors, including African American activist Kika Epstein Warfield and poet Herb Grade, et al. The volume also features superb artwork by Israeli artist Yuval Golan, a prolific political protest artist of the period.
