Heinrich Conried became general manager of the New York Metropolitan Opera in 1903 and remained until Gatti-Casazza took over in 1908. He is particularly distinguished as having been responsible for bringing Enrico Caruso to the Met in 1903 and, later, Fremstad and Farrar.
