The author's real name is Sarah Chauncey Woolsey. Susan Coolidge was a pseudynom and this was her first book. She became well known for the Katy books.

Coward is known for his comedies and musicals, such as Hay Fever, Private Lives, Bitter Sweet, and Blythe Spirit. Radclyffe Hall wrote The Well of Loneliness, which was about a lesbian relationship. Upon publication in England, it was banned for a while.
