Travel narrative by Thomas Boteler, of the survey expedition of HMS Barracouta and Leven as they survey the East African coast, and the River Gambia. Upon their return, they had surveyed 30,000 nautical mailes of coast, prepared 83 charts, and lost half their crew to tropical diseases. With four plates and few text illustrations. Wear to the joints, rubbing to the boards, surface loss to the edges of the boards, and spots of surface loss and creasing to the spine, especially one spot affecting the titling of Vol. II. Hinges feel fragile, though appear to be holding and are not cracked at the time of description. Half leather over marbled paper boards, with gilt lettering and designs along the spine. Good binding.

Krick tells us that "Sara is of the Vanderpoel family of Pennsylvania. She eventually becomes betrothed to handsome Sir Cecil." (Krick 227). Very Good binding.

Massey joins most everybody else who wrote an autobiography in that era in disliking William Mahone.~~ (Krick 317). Very Good binding.

Signed. 8vo. in the publisher's sea-blue binding with titling in white (chalk); the titling at the spine has some loss, which is often the case with this chalk titling; 201 pages; there are no ownership marks in the book; however pasted on to the first blank leaf is a photograph of the author, Anna M. Doling, which has been signed by her and dated in her hand Jan. 1914.~~Brilla is the adopted daughter of a one-legged Confederate veteran. One of the more elusive of the Neale titles, and quite nice with the signed photograph. (Krick 112). Very Good binding.

We learn from wiki that Mr. Boner became known as "North Carolina's First Man of Letters."~~ (Krick 44). Good binding.

It is certainly from the "lost cause" era (the dedication is to "The Black ‘Uncles' and ‘Aunties' and ‘Mammies' whose matchless fidelity during the war evoked the admiration not only of the South, but of civilized humanity the world over." The author, Norman Kittrell, was a Judge in Texas. (Krick 98). Very Good binding.

(7 1/4" x 5"); in the publisher's dark green cloth, with titling in red along with a rule to the perimeter of the upper board, with a rondel of a comic image of (presumably) a Congressman in the center of the upper board; with frontispiece and 14 additional illustration; there are no marks of any kind in the book.~~Comedy abound in this story narrated by a Congressman who is among the large group accompanying by train Senator Thurlow's body home to Kentucky for burial. The train, with its load of colorful politicians is snowbound, a circumstance which affords the men -- including Colonel Manysnifters of Georgia -- an opportunity to tell "strange and wonderful stories" to while the time away. ~~A reasonably attractive copy of one of the less common of the Neale titles.~~ (Krick 144). Very Good binding.

Armstrong should " she outlive me - R. J. B. Dunn";~this copy with spots of purple (ink, we believe, to disguise lighter spots); the front hinge has evidence of having been reglued; there are numberous annotations throughout the book. mostly in purple, sometimes mauve. ~~Krick observes that the contributing bishops were from all across the country, and that one of the articles was by Ellison Capers. Capers was a Confederate general who in his post-war career was elevated to the Episcopate of the Protestant Episcopal Church. (Krick 155). Good binding.
