With nearly 250 pictorial examples, 24 in colour. A fascinating compilation seen from various national viewpoints together with profiles of many of the artists. Slight fade to spines otherwise very good throughout.

Romsey: William Sharp for the Author, 1817 On the 13th of September between the hours of seven and eight in the evening, fifteen persons, the whole party in the boat, including the waterman, were plunged into the river, to rise no more. Biographical sketches and extracts from the manuscripts of some of the persons who suffered by that event. 165pp decal edged. A good quality library binding with strengthened hinges. Library plate to the front pastedown and one stamp to the reverse of the half title, otherwise clean and tight throughout. A scarce and unusual item.

London: Martin Lawrence Undated circa 1960s. The Soviet Union covered one sixth of the earth and embraced an enormous variety of different nationalities at various stages of development. How the Socialist State tackled the situations presented is the subject of this book. 72pp illustrated in black and white. Dustjacket edges frayed and chipped.

London: HMSO The warship photographic collection of Richard Perkins was presented to the National Maritime Museum in the 1960s. This formidable collection spans the period between the 1860s and the end of the Second World War. This catalogue (undated) but produced prior to 1972, unless re-clasified,can be used to order material for reproduction. 257pp plus indices.

London: Sidgwick & Jackson, 1999 Eventually Britain's reformed military leadership (under Lord Roberts and Kitchener) plus superior resources won the day. By the middle of 1900, 200,000 British troops were fighting 30,000 Boers. 301pp with b/w plates.

London: Hippolyte Bailliere, 1853 The first monograph to be published in the Ethnographical Library series conducted by Edwin Norris. xiv, 239pp. five lithographic plates in colour with tissues guards, two folding maps and two folding charts. Spine ends lightly rubbed otherwise very good throughout.

Oxford: Printed at the Theater, 1686 x, 450pp plus index 10. Thirty six of the thirty seven plates, lacks plate 23 and the map. The plates are of high quality suggesting that they are early impressions. Sometime rebacked and the hinges reinforced, the boards though are the original speckled calf. Robert Plot was the first Keeper of the Ashmolean Museum and Profesor of 'Chymistry' at the University of Oxford. He was born in Borden, Kent and is buried there.

London: Whittaker, Treacher & Co., 1833 Observations on various parts of nature and the naturalists calendar with additions by Sir William Jardine. 440pp with eighteen engraved plates by Branston. Random foxing throughout but to texts only with the exception of the frontis plate. Bound in contemporary blue cloth of no great beauty, corners lightly rubbed.
