The material produced and supplied by this famous firm to over 3000 institutions and 300 musea woldwide, was of outstanding quality.

A good copy of this rare first French edition of Bontekoe's ‘Werken’, originally published in 1689 by S. Blankaart, who also wrote the biography of Bontekoe in the first volume (‘Abregé de la Vie’). Bontekoe, who’s real name was Dekker, was a famous cartesian, recommended the use of opium, the incessant smoking of tobacco, and the continual drinking of tea, or sometimes coffee, for health and prolonging life. He supported Sylvius' theory of acid and alkali. With numerous text illustrations, 39 plain plates and many species on 316 finely coloured plates after the lithographas of Mourlot. ¶ Originally published 1956-1967 and known as one of the finest of 20th century mycological iconograph by this great mycologist. The most of the colored plates are after the magnificent water coulors of J. Chenatais, who have spent over 50 years to complete this remarkable series of mushroom portraits. In this set the volumes III & IV are in here in first issue.
