New York: Grove Press, 1962. Thirteenth Printing. Fine in a Near Fine, unclipped dustjacket. A single, short tear at the lower edge of the front panel, with some trivial pinpoint rubbing to the corner tips and spine ends, otherwise a lovely example of the jacket, with the spine colors vibrant and unfaded. Description:
New York: Frederick Fell, Inc, 1949. First Edition Thus. A novel about a love affair between a young lady and an unscrupulous rake. Bodenheim's novel is most famous, perhaps, for Peter Driben's racy cover on the 1950 paperback published by Diversy, featuring (you guessed it) a naked young lady riding roller skates down a hill; laid into this copy is a mid-1990's postcard reproducing Driben's artwork. A scarce edition of this novel, and one that is seldom-seen in a dustjacket. Preceded by the 1930 edition published by Frederick Stokes. Octavo; navy blue cloth, with titling and decorations stamped in pink on spine and front panel; dustjacket; 280pp. Light rubbing to base of spine and lower board edges, else Fine. Dustjacket is unclipped (priced $1.98), with a few closed tears and a barely-perceptible degree of sunning to spine; Near Fine.

Basis for Anthony Mann's 1953 film adaptation, starring Jimmy Stewart, Janet Leight, and Robert Ryan. The film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay, at the time, a rare honor for a western. First Printing. Octavo (19.5cm); dark orange paper and beige cloth-covered boards, with titles stamped in black and dark brown on spine; black topstain; dustjacket; [viii],175,[1]pp. The vault copy formerly retained by the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Library in Culver City, California, bearing their typed and rubber-stamped label on the front endpaper, and rubber-stamped address to two sides of the textblock, and lower margin of several internal pages.
