Near Fine in a close to Near Fine dustwrapper, increasingly uncommon in this condition. Mailer's first book, a Burgess 99 novel.

Little to no effort was made to sort out of the edition bifolios that varied in print quality due to irregularities in the handmade paper. Most copies have been bound by Julie Leonard." The 25 fifteen-line sections that comprise this single long poem are printed recto with original calligraphic marks by Cheryl Jacobsen printed in blue on verso and along the end pages.

Large octavo (7-3/4" x 10-1/2") bound in the original decorated green cloth; 664 pages. Illustrated with 2 steel-engraved portraits, over 70 wood engravings, photo engravings, and heliotypes, 8 sketches of regional coastlines drawn by Inuits, and 13 maps, including the large folding linen-backed map in the rear pocket. Hall made three trips to the North. His ship, the Polaris, reached the farthest northerly point then attained by any vessel. This, his second visit and most extended, was published posthumously--Hall never returned from his third trip. Here is a detailed and valuable account of life among the Eskimos in the Arctic.
