Hall made three trips to the North. His ship, the Polaris, reached the farthest northerly point then attained by any vessel. Description:
Albany: Carroll & Cook, 1844. First Edition. Hardcover. Nearly all of the plates are bright and clean, but a few have ragged edges. The first two plates are the worst, with the first trimmed with tears and the second with some staining. Spine badly worn, covers detached, text block cracked with many plates loose. A Good, complete set of these plates. Quarto (9" x 11-1/2") bound in publisher's gilt-decorated cloth. Illustrated with an engraved title page and 141 hand-colored lithographs of birds, mostly two per image, and containing "detailed descriptions of all the animals hitherto observed within the state of New-York, with brief notices of those occasionally found near its borders." One of only 300 copies where the plates were colored.
