A nice example of the fifth edition of Modern Polo, by (then) Lt-Col Edward Darley (E.D.) Miller, published by Hurst & Blackett in 1927.Lt-Col Miller was originally with the 17th Lancers and at time of authorship was Polo Manager of the Hurlingham Club. The book is described - by those with more knowledge than I - as "a comprehensive examination of modern polo from the 1920s. One of the great polo books from the early 20th century."
480 pages, 172 b/w illustrations. Approx 8.75 x 6". Maroon cloth boards with embossed title to front board and spine.This copy is signed by the author, dedicated to Arthur Baillie, with best wishes from the author, Roehampton Club 1927. A little unusually this inscription is on the front board endpaper.
The book appears to be in sound condition. There is some bumping and wear to board and spine edges/ends; the spine is slightly weak and the block thus a little loose. Spine titles - black on maroon - are a little indistinct; perhaps they were originally gilt. Titles to… Read More
