Description:
Interesting and curious case from the history of Russian-American relations. Pickford and Fairbanks were truly adored in the USSR. There were even candy bars "Douglas Fairbanks" with the actor's image on the wrappers. Each appearance of the artists on the screen was relished for a long time in periodicals. Rumors about the arrival of Pickford and Fairbanks in the USSR made a lot of noise even before their arrival. Fans wrote to the newspapers: "Is it true that they will visit our country?", " Are they here for a short time or to live?", " Will Mary and Douglas be filmed here?" On July 19, 1926, they were greeted at the Belorussky Railway Station as celestial beings. There were so many fans that they could not even fit on Tverskaya Street. After their visit in 1926, a film based on the newsreel was released in Moscow. The silent comedy with a star name in the title became a hit and subsequently entered the golden fund of domestic cinema. Director Sergei Komarov watched with surprise the visit of a…

In 1938, in Leningrad, the publishing house of the Central Committee of the All-Union Leninist Communist Youth Union "Children's Literature" printed a unique book called "We Are from Igarka". The idea to tell about "the life on the edge of the earth", about the history of their unique northern city, arose among the students of school No. 3 of the port city of Igarka back in December 1935. Maxim Gorky, to whom they sent a collective letter, liked their idea. Gorky's answer, in which he outlined his plan for writing a book, was reproduced in the local printing house of the city newspaper… Read More

Description:
"Russians are the most talented space researchers and computer scientists in the world. The secret of Russia's future prosperity is in its minds. It is the specialists who will lead your country to the leading powers," — these words of Arthur Clark are not accidental.Clark's work often traces motives that are somehow connected with the USSR and Russia. For example, in the novel "Dolphin Island", published six years after the launch of Sputnik-1, one of the dolphins is called Sputnik, and one of the main characters is a Russian scientist Nikolai Kazan, who works on Dolphin Island off the coast of Australia, and during his illness his wife comes to him from Moscow. Arthur Clark very kindly welcomed the launch of the first satellite and cosmonaut into space in the USSR. In the USSR, Arthur Clarke was one of the most published Western science fiction writers in Russian and was considered "progressive". Most of his new novels were published almost immediately in the magazine "Technique to the Youth",… Read More

Description:
In Yiddish. The collection contains poems by 41 poets, which seemed to the compilers to reflect the spirit of the revolutionary era. Among them are both Jewish and Russian authors, including Sh. An-skiy, A. Blok, M. Broderzon, M. Gorky, A. Jaffe, D. Merezhkovsky, J.L. Perets, D. Frishman, S. Frug, etc.The most interesting fact is the final publication of the collection: the translation into Yiddish of the Block's poem "Twelve", made by Moshe Broderzon (1890-1956) - the first translator of the poem into Yiddish. One of the compilers of the collection, Semyon Grigoryevich Tomsinsky (1894-1936/38), was later convicted and shot as "the head of the counterrevolutionary terrorist trotskyist-zinoviev organization in Leningrad." In a blind owner's binding with the preservation of the illustrated original cover.
