Katherine Dunn, another patron saint of Portland letters, wrote in 1984, "Curtis has long been labeled a 'street' poet. 'What does that mean?' he wonders. 'Do we live in the street? Do we sleep in the street? Do we read our poems in the street? Are we uneducated? I have a degree in English. Or do we write about the street experience? I think it's that my poems deal with real life and that's what the term 'street' means.

Laid in is a color xerox reproduction of a dapper Stone at a book fair, numbered 1/400 million and signed in the reproduction.
