London: Victor Gollancz Ltd., 1951. First UK Edition of this biography of Harry S. Truman written by Roosevelt's Press Secretary and member of Truman's '48 campaign. A nice copy with slight foxing to page edges and front & rear pastedowns and endpapers. Some overall dustiness to dust wrapper along with some toning to spine. Overall, a near fine is very near fine dust wrapper.

This polemic on the First World War ("a lively indictment of Mars and his backers.") appeared in the run up to WWII and provides a fascinating view into the appeasement debate of the time. The work was inspired by Tomlinson's hatred of war, reflected in both the book's title and amazing jacket art, gained through his years as war correspondent in Belgium and France during the Great War.
A lovely copy, near fine if not better, in an equally near fine, bright dust wrapper with some wear to the bottom folds, two miniscule edge tears and slightly soiled rear panel and spine.
A scarce book in this condition.

NY: Bouwerie Editions (1970). [6 pp]. Single poem with a tipped-on color photograph by William Katz.
Limited to 402 copies, 100 of which are numbered and signed by author, 26 poet's proofs (A-Z) & 26 printer's proofs (A-Z) not for sale, and 250 numbered and not signed. This copy appears to be one of the 26 reserved for the author, signed with the handwritten note "for friends" (numbered 21, not lettered as called for on the colophon).
Fine in printed wrappers.

This is # 167. Folio. xvi, 17-39pp Transcript, 20 plates by Inigo Jones and [40pp] facsimiles of the original manuscript. Boards bowed and soiled. Trace of removed bookplate. Pages uncut. About very good.

First Edition of the first volume of Huxley's autobiography.
A signed presentation copy inscribed and dated in the year of publication by Huxley for Corliss Lamont. Lamont, featured on pages 197-198 of the book, was the youngest son of Thomas W. Lamont, Huxley's banker and future Chairman of J. P. Morgan. In 1924, the younger Lamont was a paying guest in Huxley's house in Oxford. He and Huxley continued to correspond, and in the book Huxley describes him as "an uncompromising anti-establishment and anti-religious humanist". Having previously edited a collection of essays published under the title The Humanist Frame, there may have been no greater compliment for Huxley to pay than to call someone a humanist.
As was his custom, Huxley has signed again under his name on the title page.
Regrettably, Lamont noted approximately 25 passages of interest to him with a red ink line in the margin (including, perhaps understandably, the passages about him). The book also has a musty odor to it.

Oxford & London: Phaidon Press - East & West Library, 1946. First English Edition. Corners gently pushed (not bumped), slight toning, very slight, barely discernible spine lean. Easily a near fine copy in dust wrapper (not price clipped) with toned spine and some slight material loss to spine tips (not affecting text).

Would be fine if not for a touch of edgewear to spine tips and bottom rear board, some staining to front and rear free endpaper, and very small spot to front cover. Very good unclipped dust wrapper is torn in two spots (1/2" and 1"), is slightly yellowed and very slightly rubbed, plastic covering peeling in a few spots. Overall a very presentable copy of an early Capote.
