Marcus Manilius (fl.1st century AD) was a Roman poet, astrologer, and author of a poem in five books called Astronomica. Housman's critical edition of the poet's 'Astronomica' is regarded as the definitive work on the subject. This volume contains the Latin text of the third book of Manilius, first published in 1916, and here reissued in a second edition, including a short note by A.S.F. Gow regarding the alterations, as well as a preface by Housman in which he discusses the astrological content of the work and notes the errors and misinterpretations of previous editors. 2nd Edition. The manuscripts were written between 1490 and 1505, and not discovered until they were found in Madrid in 1965. Topics discussed include mechanics, statics, geometry and construction of fortifications. They are among the major engineering treatises of the time. Leather.
