Stapleton, Thomas (1806 – 1849), antiquary, FRS, was elected a fellow of the Society of Antiquaries on 15 January 1839. His most important literary work was this edition of the rolls of the Norman exchequer, printed by the Society of Antiquaries as Magni rotuli scaccarii Normanniae sub regibus Angliae (2 vols., 1840 – 4), which 150 years later remains the authoritative edition of these important twelfth-century records. Mary Howitt (1799-1888) Poet, writer, journalist, translator, editor of numerous books. Wife of William, "The Howitts had been all their lives great wanderers; they would journey for weeks or months at a time, chiefly on foot, through England, Wales, or Scotland, and the Continent, and knew intimately and minutely every place they wrote about. Their literary industry was marvellous, as is shown by appended list of books. Mary Howitt's name was attached, either as author, editor, or translator, to 110 works." Corners rubbed and slightly bumped. John George Adami (1862 - 1926) FRS, FRSE, CBE, LL.D., "qualified in medicine at Manchester and in 1892 was appointed professor of pathology at McGill University. At the invitation of the Royal College of Physicians (in London) he delivered the Croonian Lectures in 1917. He chose the title 'Adaptation and disease; the contribution of medical research to the study of evolution'. Adami believed that medical work had brought to light important facts about heredity that had not been communicated adequately to biological scientists. In making a Papier Croisé, the final step required that the paper be lifted up and carefully moved while still wet. This caused the characteristic knotting in the design.

George Rose (1817-1882) a former curate in Camberwell, London. After leaving the Church of England in 1855, Rose underwent a major career change and began to write under the pseudonym Arthur Sketchley.
His fictitious character Mrs. Brown's monologues became a major success. Rose's creation was from a working class background and addressed the current topics of the day in a humorous and colloquial fashion.
