Description:
n.p.: n.p., 1878. First edition. Illustrated self paper wrappers. Very good, edge wear, light soiling.. [4 pp.] bifolium. Illus. with b/w engraved portrait. 5 x 7.5 inches. "Summary for the Year 1878. Showing the Extent of the Work." Started in 1872 by Robert Whitaker McAll (1821-1893) an English / Scottish congregationalist minister moved by the plight of Parisian Workers, the "Popular Evangelical Mission of France" was just reaching the peak of its popularity in 1878 including the publication of "The White Fields of France or, The story of Mr. M'All's mission to the workingmen of Paris and Lyons" (1879) by Horatius Bonar. Often criticized for preaching conformity and maintaining a rigid hierarchical structure, it remained in conflict with Christian Socialists. By 1878 it was running 13, 374 pray meetings attended by nearly half a million adults. It had 45 five stations in Paris, 8 in Lyon, 2 in Bordeaux, and 1 about to open in Boulogne-sur-Mer. Scarce. General Armandi's defense of his actions in the uprisings of 1831 that broke out in the Papal State between the Legations of Bologna, Romagna and Marche, at the instigation of Ciro Menotti from Modena- where he had been promoted to general by the revolutionary government of Bologna and appointed minister of war. Later his work was heavily criticized by Mazzini and General, Sercognani. Pier Damiano Armandi (1798-1855) served in the army of the Republic and the Empire , ought in Genoa, in Savona, then in all the Napoleonic wars, in the battles of Austerlitz, Vicenza, Wagram, Bautzen, where on the field he was appointed artillery…
