Modest rubbing to joints, otherwise a fine set. First edition in book form (ordinary issue) of Flaubert's first novel, preceded by serial publication in the REVUE DE PARIS. This copy exhibits the first state of the dedication leaf, with 'Senart' rather than 'Senard.' There were also seventy-five copies printed on thick papier vélin, which are very rare.
