London: Grant Richards, 1900 Blue and orange pictorial cloth featuring silhouettes of two armed men atop a ridge line. Scarce volume. With eight black-and-white illustrations, including tissue-guarded frontispiece. These drawings were reproduced by arrangement with the "Illustrated London News" and depict various key events of "our former fights with the Boers." "Apart from ther constant interest," writes the author in the Preface, "our old tussles with the Boers have a special interest just now, because they cast much clear light upon the present campaign in Natal." Light-to-moderate rubbing to cover extremities, with front corners worn through to boards. Front corners and midpoint of rear board bumped. Light fraying and tiny chip in cloth at head of spine. Spine lettering slightly faded. Few pencil notations at upper front endpaper. Vertical pencil lines along outer margins of a few paragraphs in the chapter on Majuba. Otherwise clean and intact.

Creative Education, Inc., 1986 Very Good-/No Jacket. First Edition. Color pictorial (photograph) boards; reinforced cloth binding 32 pages. Intended for young readers and illustrated with black-and-white stills from the television program, this book examines the themes, characters, and popularity of the successful show that lasted through almost 250 episodes and still in reruns. Light cover smudges; moderate rubbing to cover extremities. Interior clean and tight.

Maine: Self-published, 1976 Color and black-and-white photographs by Calvert with complementary captions and original poetry by Merry. SIGNED by Calvert and Merry on title page. Rear cover features photographs and biographies of both. Photograph gracing front cover is bright and clean, but originally dark-blue background of cover is heavily scuffed and has taken on a purple hue. Large irregular patches of moderate discoloration (browning) to rear cover (effects of storage). Interior clean and tight.

Camden, Maine: Camden Herald Publishing Co., 1967 Color pictorial cloth. Designed and composed by Tom L. Peers. With lovely captioned black-and-white and color photographs throughout. (Note: we have never seen a subsequent volume.) Light-to-moderate rubbing to cover extremities. Light uniform browning to upper 2" of front and rear boards; spine and adjoining margins of boards slightly more sun-browned (shelf storage). A couple of moderate spots, faint soil to boards, including one near lower spine edge. Interior clean, tight, and unworn.

With black-and-white photographs of past presidents setting off each chapter; 136 pages. Library marks: scar to lower spine and portion of covers where stickers/tape wasremoved; 2" x 1/2" scar and tiny closed tear to upper rear cover where another sticker was removed; "withdrawn" inkstamp to title page; tiny call numbers sticker to verso of title page; pocket-removal remnants to inside rear cover. Otherwise clean, tight, and unworn.

Bar Harbor, Maine: Mt. Desert Oceanarium, 1977 Two 17" x 22" typewritten/mimeographed sheets, staple-bound to create booklet which was originally included as part of a kit. All about making and mending fishing nets, with additional information about volleyball and basketball nets, bait and grocery bags, hammock, etc. With many detailed drawings and instructions. The complete kit came with two needles, a sample piece of netting, and wood for whittling two knot-spacing gauges, but these instructions can stand alone as useful (or replace those lost from a kit). Creased horizontally at center. Few tiny soil marks. Otherwise intact and only lightly worn.

New York: Wilfred Funk, Inc., 1957 Light blue cloth; red spine lettering. This book "celebrates a cold country, a place of wonder and beauty, an isolated community of 227 people" in the early 20th century. Cover cloth, except for spine, is irregularly bleach-speckled as though foxed or mildew-stained, but this appears to be the result of defective material rather than poor care. There is no indication of moisture damage, no odor. Spine tips slightly sun-darkened, corresponding to minor chipping at head and tail of spine on dust jacket. Neat gift inscription and date at upper front endpaper. Otherwise clean, tight, and unworn in an intact, moderately-to-heavily edgeworn dust jacket. Now protected in mylar.

Waterville, Maine: Sentinel Publishing Company, 1913 Staple-bound booklet with flexible vinyl cover. Details of regulations of the 113-14 season. One Appendix and thorough 18-page Index in rear. Front cover water-spotted and with a single minute spot of soil at upper edge. Very light cover edgewear. Otherwise clean, intact, and unworn.

Promotional booklet which highlights Maine's poetical literary landmarks, with line drawn map and descriptive travel route notes. Printed poem entitled "Maine" by John W. Leydon laid-in. Light general cover wear, with moderate wear along spine, lower 1/2 split; margins of cover sun-faded. Interior clean and intact.

Full of vintage advertising and county/town/city statistics, businesses, public officials, political representatives, etc. Moderate scuffing and rubbing, faint soil to cover cloth; two tiny pinholes in cloth at front spine edge. Irregular 1" closed tears at top and bottom of folding map hinge. Foxing to fore edge of text block. Interior otherwise clean, intact, and unworn.
