Description:
[Bruxelles]: Internationale Situationniste, 1958. 9 x 12 1/2" sheet, offset litho on both recto and verso. Text in French. A vital attack on art critics by the I.S., signed by Abdelhafid Khatib, Hans Platschek, Walter Korun, Guy Debord, Giuseppe Pinot-Gallizio, and Asger Jorn, and issued on the occasion of a gathering of art critics in conjunction with the World's Fair in Brussels. The flyer was forcibly distributed during the invasion of the Press Club at said gathering, mailed to critics, and thrown out of a window into the street. Faint old fold line, and a touch of toning to margins, else a fine example. As one might imagine of such a forcibly distributed pamphlet, surviving examples are relatively scarce.

Neuilly-sur-Seine: Le Phare de Neuilly, 1933. First edition. 8vo, photographically illustrated wraps by Man Ray. Profusely illustrated. The debut issue (of four numbers published, the last a double number) of one of the most beautiful and unusual of all Surrealist periodicals. This is the second state, with the Daumal contribution replaced with "Miss Hazel" by Petrus-Borel. With contributions from Lêon-Paul Fargue, Jacques Baron, Robert Desnos, André de Richaud, Jules Supervielle, René Laforgue, Georgette Camille, Jean Painlevé, Céline Arnaud, Nicole Cazanave, Roger Vitrac, Jean Follain, Alejo Carpentier, and G. Ribemont-Dessaignes. It also includes photographs within by Man Ray, Nadal, and Lee Miller. Wraps rather creased and rubbed, with some tears along the spine, and soiling and some very faint waviness to back cover, a good only example but complete and sound.

Lyon: Bosc frères : M. et L. Riou, 1933. First edition. 8vo, 229 [2] pp, printed wraps. Text in French. This expansive work on tattoos grew out of De Tromelin's doctoral thesis, in which he studied 788 subjects and 4,142 tattoos, making classifcations between ethnic, professional, and allegorical tattoos. The work is not illustrated, but was one of the largest such surveys of the time an important contribution to scholarship in the pre-war era. Graven cites the work frequently, and draws attention to the importance of the bibliography especially. OCLC locates 13 holdings worldwide, only one of which is in the US. A somewhat battered copy, with a sound bump to head of spine, and a split and some chipping to to the paper covering the spine, but the binding still holds and ist sturdy.

Description:
[Paris]: Internationale Situationniste, 1967. First edition. 8vo, [9] pp, saddle-stapled wraps. Text in French. First edition of this text on China, signed by the IS but generally believed to be authored by Debord, likely helped with input by Rene Viénet, who refers to it in his foreward to The Chairman's New Clothes. Aaccording to the back panel, this was published as a supplement to the 11th issue of the Internationale Situationniste journal, but the pamphlet actually was published in August of that year, with the text then reprinted in that issue which followed by a couple months. Rare. OCLC locates only 3 holdings. Very good with some light traces of soiling and a couple small cresaes.

Description:
Paris: Bernard Grasset, 1954. First edition. 8vo, 205 pp, printed wraps. In the photographically illustrated dust jacket. Association copy, generously inscribed in the year following publication to the occultist and fellow Rosicrucian Jean Haab: "A jean Haab / Qui avant mème d'être ceinture noire avait dejá se bien servi le judo. En toute amitié, Paris,, 20 Septembre 55." A striking association linking Klein's work with the occult. At the age of 24, Klein left France and studied Judo in Japan, achieving a 4th dan blackbelt - an unusual accomplishment for a European of that era. Upon his return to France Klein opened the Judo Académie in Paris, and then published this extensive survey of Judo, illustrated with hundreds of black and white photographs, many of them featuring Klein himself. While the influence of Judo on Klein's work has received increasing attention in recent years, the influence of the occult on Klein is still largely unexplored. Along with his friend Claude Pascal, whom he met…

Vanegas was the wrestler who taught Che Guevara, Fidel Castro and the soldiers of the Granma Yacht expedition self-defense, and harbored several of the combatants in his home. The Vanegas Arroyo family was no stranger to the Cuban struggles. His grandfather, the printer Antonio Vanegas, was friends with José Martí and printed early texts of Cuban Independence, as well as works by Posada. Vanegas died in September of 2001. Fidel Castro wrote the following elegy for him in an open letter to his friends: "He conocido con profundo pesar la noticia del fallecimiento de Arsacio Vanegas, y deseo hacerles llegar mi más sincero sentimiento de condolencia.
