The cover has cracks along the edges and appears to have been burned around the bottom. Inside covers papered with silver leaf floral paper, cracked. Previous owner wrote some notes on first page, otherwise no markings. Pages are yellowed and water stained. Title page is a design in red ink: towers, floral, helmeted youth at top, medallion with publisher's name at bottom, title is typed in central medallion. Facing page is a portrait of the author. The 'various readings' and 'editor's notes' are dated between 1801 and 1830. This book was probably sold unbound; it would have been covered by the owner.
