Asprey Binding
(ii) + 331 + (ii)
Book measures 185mm x 120mm approximately.
Assumed to be an Asprey binding but not signed. Bound in full dark green slightly textured calf. Spine with five gilt-ruled raised bands with elaborate gilt decoration to each compartment. Elaborate panelled gilt fillet borders to both boards with further intricate gilt dentelle work to board inners. Plain light green end-papers and paste-downs. All page edges in gilt.
CONDITION
The binding is stable with boards firmly attached, although front hinge is a little weak. The boards exhibit a few very minor surface marks with some wear to spine top, and very mild bumping to corners. The spine has faded evenly to a tan colour.
Internally the pages are very clean unmarked condition with just a hint of mild uniform browning to the end-papers. Gilt page edges in very good bright condition.

CONDITION
In very good condition generally. The book is strong and tight. The dust jacket is in very good condition, with only a few very minor surface marks. Internally the pages are very clean throughout with only very mild marginal toning, and the odd very rare spot.

Alan Brien (1925 to 2008) was an English journalist best known for his novel Lenin. This took the form of a fictional diary charting Vladimir Lenin's life from the death of his father to shortly before his own demise in 1924.

Book measures 200mm x 130mm approximately.
Handsomely bound in contemporary full tan calf panelled boards with later spine. Spine with four gilt-ruled raised bands with gilt-boxed compartment and gilt decoration within. Maroon title label. Panelled boards with blind-tooled borders and decorative cornices.
CONDITION
The binding is very strong and firm. Spine is in very good condition indeed. There are a few small patches of missing leather from both boards, plus light surface scratches and the occasional mark. Light bumping to board corners. Internally the original pages are lightly browned throughout. An old worm hole to the rear board with tracks extending for 4 to 5 pages inwards. Some old random ink words to the front paste-down.
Overall, a lovely tight little volume in good condition.

Some bumping to corners. Internally the pages are generally clean with some age-related toning and some browning, the odd spot and a little grubbiness towards the end-papers. Previous owner bookplate central to front paste-down and with a small neat ink inscription (dated 1729) to top of front end-paper.
