Lovely, tight and square copy in maroon boards. Dust wrapper is lightly soiled with an abrasion to front cover impacting the "N" in Lincoln, tanning to the spine, spine top rubbed. Despite this cataloguing of flaws, the wrapper is about near fine.

New York: Dial Press, 1945. First edition of poet's second book, print run of 2000 copies (ADAMS 2). Penned initials on front free endpaper, otherwise about fine, a tight square copy with sharp corners and slight areas of uneven fading. The scarce and notoriously fragile dust wrapper is present, some pieces missing, torn and split in two along the spine.

Adams, a Pulitzer Prize winning historian and coiner of the term "American Dream", depicts the story of Jeffersonian ideas -- and their conflict with those of Hamilton -- over the centuries of American history right up to the New Deal era. An important perspective on one of America's founding theorists during a time of unprecedented government activity in the lives of its constituents. A very sharp and tight, square-cornered copy save for the imprint of the dust wrapper design on the spine; still, easily fine. Dust wrapper remains attractive, toned internally (slightly visible from the outside) with two or three very small chips at dust wrapper folds, mininimal rubbing and one barely perceptible crease.
