L"Atelier D'Art Graphique, 1982. A substantial album in a binder, illustrated throughout with captioned photographs (in French) of American troops and scenes from New Caledonia in World War II. Designed by by Pierre Alibert with a handwritten signed letter from him laid in. Apparently published in two separate volumes, this one covers the years 1944-45. Published in New Caledonia.

An account of the life of the voracious August II, Elector of Saxony and King of Poland, particularly his love life and numerous illegitimate children. Engraved device of Hermes on the title page. Minor soiling and writing in pencil to the endpapers; some loss and wear to the binding, repaired by a conservator. Full leather, with raised bands. Very Good binding.

Nice copy in a dustjacket that has a snag on the spine and a couple of short closed tears; it is protected with a new mylar cover, and housed in the original publisher's slipcase. D articulates the necessary conditions for having beautiful children, and supports the exercise of the "genital act" within marriage. Illustrations, including images of "monstrosities" -- two headed babies and the like. Signed by M. D on the verso of the half-title page with this admonition: "Tout exemplaire non revetu de la signature de l'auteur et de l'editeur sera repute contrefait, et poursuivi conformement a la loi". Pages 157 to 215 have some loss note affecting the text on the edge approximately an inch above the bottom corner due to a bug munching. Pages 348 to 384 have some loss at the bottom right edge due to bug as well. No text affected. No pencil or ink markings in text. One quarter leather spine and paper-covered boards. Corners bumped. Illustrations in rear of book. One illustration has loss at bottom due to bugs as well. Very Good binding.

With engraved general title page and 20 additional plates. Lacking the November issue, and the two plates which accompanied it. Scattered foxing. Spots of loss to the cloth boards, and significant surface loss to the rear board. Minor wear to the joints. Half morocco over black cloth, with gilt lettering. Good binding.

Collates complete, with ten engraved plates. Half title; title page vignette; additional title page, chromolithographic. Bookplate. Three quarters tan morocco over marbled paper boards, with lettering and decoration in gilt. Top edge gilt. Near Fine binding.

Philadelphia: Deacon & Peterson, 1864. Half Leather. Very Good binding. The first 12 issues of Mrs. Peterson's The Lady's Friend, bound. Issued during the Civil War. With all 12 color fashion plates present, though one has loss to the top corner affecting just the edge of the plate and another is starting to separate ate one of the folds. Another leaf (a black and white plate) has had the bottom corner torn off, affecting the plate. Finally the Frontispiece ("Gabriel Wilkie's Return) has a 3" closed tear. An interesting contrast between the fashion plates "Les Modes Parisiennes" and the printed music throughout which reference the ongoing war time and again. Half leather, with the beginnings of separation at the top of the rear joint. Very Good binding.

London: Longman, Green, Longman, Roberts & Green, 1865. Hard Cover. Very Good binding. With 10 lithographic plates. Original paper covered boards over cloth-backed spine with paper label (which is partial). Very Good binding.

New York: Dodd, Mead & Company, 1938. First Edition. Very Good binding/Good dust jacket. An early Inspector Appleby book. This copy has shelfwear to the binding, with rubbing to the cardboard at parts of the bottom edge; there is an older bookshop sticker at the bottom of the front endpaper. There are no ownership or other marks in the book, and the binding is actually quite bright.~~The dustjacket has been reinforced -- at the spine especially -- on the verso, with paper and scotch tape. The jacket has significant rubbing with closed tears, and a chip at the bottom of the spine. It has not been price-clipped and is now protected with a mylar cover. Very Good binding / Good dust jacket.

Very Good binding/Good dust jacket. 8vo.; in the publisher's blue cloth binding, with the dustjacket, there is an erasure and pencil scribble marks on the front endpaper; there are no other marks in the book. The dustjacket flap lists "The Land of No Shadow" as the third listing the in the Adventures in the Unknown Series. The dustjacket has moderate wear and closed tears is pretty much intact. Very Good binding / Good dust jacket.

NY: The Century Co, 1894. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good binding. Signed. Attractive signed copy of Dodge's last book, with a anagram in her hanwdriting "written for the purchaser of this book, April 27, 1895" tipped in. The anagram also is signed. While Dodge notes that it is "too simple and anagram to require an answer here", it took our shop staff some little while to figure it out. However, we are not regular readers of St. Nicholas Magazine, which Dodge edited and which was full of anagrams. A charming item. Very Good binding.

1602. Landscape engraved by Flemish engraver Nicolaes de Bruyn, after woodland paintings by van Coninxloo, the Flemish landscape painter. 14 1/4 x 22 1/2" [36.8 x 57.2 cm.] . There are several closed tears, the most egregious being approximately 4" in the middle coming down from the top edge. There is some minor loss as well. A finely detailed and quite fluid early 17th century engraving.
