Washington DC: Bureau d'Information de Guerre du Gouvernement des Etats-Unie d'Amerique, 1943. No Binding. Fine. A four page pamphlet in newspaper form dated 1st April 1943. This copy is fine, the colour is bright, the pages clean, no tears or marks as it has been protected by a stiff card and cellophane envelope. Laid in: a Sotheby's sale ticket dated 6.11.01 and a slip of paper marked 'souvenir'. This item comes from the Franklin Delano Roosevelt collection of Frederick Baldwin Adams Jr, 1910 - 2001, the son of Ellen Walters Delano who was a first cousin to President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Adams became a passionate bibliophile who served as director of the Pierpont Morgan Library in New York City for two decades and compiled a significant personal collection relating to F.D.R.. In 1969 he married his third wife who was a Swedish princess and with whom he shared the final years of his life in France. Adams' move to France explains the presence of his books in the United Kingdom. Fine 1943

Provenance: from the recent Glasgow dispersal sale of Alasdair Gray's library. Gray (1934-2019) is acknowledged as one of the most innovative figures in Scottish literature and culture. Painter, novelist, playwright, poet and editor, Gray frequently combined his diverse artistic talents within single works to challenge existing forms. He has been described as 'Blending satire and tragedy, realism and fantasy, his work has been credited with spurring a renaissance in Scottish literature.' Stuttgart: Druck und Berlag von Gebruder Kroner, 1870. A book owned by a pioneering woman in London politics, the Mayor of Bethnal Green in London in the 1890s. Illustrated boards, browned and faded. Benoly's ownership inscription appears opposite the title page with the date 1896 written above. Several pencil drawings on the endpapers, mostly depicting female figures in Victorian costume. Fingermarking and general grubbiness throughout, several pages near detached. We acquired this book from a descendant of Benoly whose diaries are archived by Tower Hamlets. These special numbers are dedicated to the reconstruction and construction of new churches in France following the Second World War; they are fully illustrated with black and white photographs and architectural plans. Arthur Bosmans, La Rue: Rhapsodie Symphonique, Editions Metropolis, Henri Elkan Music publisher, undated; small folio in printed card wrappers, inscribed by the composer to Colin Davis. This score is from a large collection of scores that belonged to the conductor Sir Colin Davis, many annotated and used in performance, almost all from the post-war period and including at least two examples of scores from which Davis conducted the work's premier: Thea Musgrave's Clarinet Concerto (Davis was himself originally a clarinettist by training) and Malcolm Williamson's The Stone Wall which Davis premiered at the Last Night of the Proms in September 1971. Most of the scores are full size performance versions, several very large indeed in order to accommodate the scoring of a post-Schoenberg orchestra. The disk is in fine condition, clean with no scratches, the cover is lightly soiled and creased to the corners but undamaged. Paul Eluard reads five poems, Courage; Aujourd'hui; Liberté; L'Amour, La Mort, La Vie; and Dominique Aujourd'hui Présente. 1954

Paris: Printed by John Billaine, 1658. Fair. [10] pp 415 [17] folio. A scarce Paris imprint of 1658 found in a remnant of the 17th century binding of sheep's leather. The text is collated and complete as per the estc with title page, author's preface to the reader, concluding with index, penultimate errata leaf and final leaf blank. Unmarked by library stamps, ownership of J Smith to title page. The binding is fair, upper cover lacking, lower cover detached, remnants of the spine covering the binding which is holding together. The text is very good, short closed tear to the title page and first page of the preface, otherwise the pages are crisp with only occasional staining, final blank nicked to edges. Fair 1658
