This copy is fine, the colour is bright, the pages clean, no tears or marks as it has been protected by a stiff card and cellophane envelope. Laid in: a Sotheby's sale ticket dated 6.11.01 and a slip of paper marked 'souvenir'. This item comes from the Franklin Delano Roosevelt collection of Frederick Baldwin Adams Jr, 1910 - 2001, the son of Ellen Walters Delano who was a first cousin to President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Adams became a passionate bibliophile who served as director of the Pierpont Morgan Library in New York City for two decades and compiled a significant personal collection relating to F.D.R.. In 1969 he married his third wife who was a Swedish princess and with whom he shared the final years of his life in France. Adams' move to France explains the presence of his books in the United Kingdom. Fine 1943

The text is collated and complete as per the estc with title page, author's preface to the reader, concluding with index, penultimate errata leaf and final leaf blank. Unmarked by library stamps, ownership of J Smith to title page. The binding is fair, upper cover lacking, lower cover detached, remnants of the spine covering the binding which is holding together. The text is very good, short closed tear to the title page and first page of the preface, otherwise the pages are crisp with only occasional staining, final blank nicked to edges. Fair 1658
