[10]p, original goat by the Doves Bindery, raised bands, spine in six panels, author in gilt to second panel, a.e.g. Very slightly rubbed to extremities, but generally bright externally. Inscription erased to foot of colophon page leaving a light stain, otherwise internally bright and clean. One of two hundred and fifty copies on paper, with another twelve on vellum. Printed in red and black throughout, alternately in English and Italian. Actually published in January 1911. Tidcombe DP23; Tomkinson 25; Franklin, page 273. First Edition. Hardback. Good+. 16mo. Full calf, semi-raised bands, four narrow and two wide, spine divided into five unequal panels, title in gilt between panels two, three and four, the remaining with small quadrilobe in the centre, surrounded by elaborate roundel with flower heads, panelled design to covers, double fillet inner panel with fleurons to corners, with wide outer 'doorway' roll as a frame, gilt roll to inner edge, a.e.g. shell pattern marbled endpapers. Covers rubbed, with small amounts of loss to leather and gilt, small hole to head to front joint. Internally a small stain to bottom corner to the first twenty or so pages. Interleaved throughout. Two volumes complete - Volume One - viii, 405pp, [1] and Volume Two - v, [1], 456pp. Rebound in modern half morocco and marbled paper over boards, raised bands, spine in six panels, morocco title label to second panel, author label to fourth, volume number in gilt to third, all panels framed with gilt double fillet, all edges marbled. Externally very good indeed. Internally lightly browned throughout, some light offsetting from engravings with occasional light foxing. Label slightly chipped, boards rubbed, corners and edges bumped, front inner joint with paper repair, internally quite bright and clean, complete with the half-title and the 'To the Binders' leaf at the rear. With a hand-coloured frontispiece and twenty hand-coloured engravings by George Cruikshank. First edition, first issue, large-paper copy, the Albert M. Cohn copy with his bookplate and an initialled typed note to front pastedown, now housed in a cloth chemise and a full morocco pull off top box by Riviere, with raised bands and gilt to spine and sides, which is slightly rubbed and darkened to extremities.
