Boards scuffed, mostly along the edges; small tear at head of spine; hinges cracked. Internally bright and clean. An account of Barrow’s test of the Payne Throttling Engine, Triple Expansion Engine, High Pressure Cylinder, the Penberthy Injector Test, the Ohio Gasoline Engine, and other experiments at Sibley College, Department of Experimental Engineering.

First edition, very limited original printing of 134 copies, comprised of three separate editions of differing paper stocks with different types of illustrations. This one lettered "F," from a select extra hors commerce printing of ten copies. Signed by the editors at Trois Magots, R. Denoel and A. M. Blanche. A lavish production, with wide margins, chapters and pages set in deep orange ink, all on Arches paper, with extraordinary illustrations by the Belgian artist Jean de Brosschere.

Wrappers slightly stained, with repair at extreme inner margin. Uniform light internal toning to the pages; overall, a nice copy. First Edition. OCLC 250399471.

Very good copy in contemporary calf, rubbed and a bit worn, but still very sound. An uncommon Amsterdam printing of this influential French artillery handbook, first published in 1683, and with six editions by the end of the century. "Blondel used the three solutions for establishing the practical rules which he formulated in his L'Art de jetter les bombes, the printing of which was delayed until 1683 by order of Louis XIV, who hardly cared to have the enemy profit by it."-D.S.B., II, p. 202. Blondel (1618-1686) was a French mathematician, architect, engineer, and topographer.

An excellent candidate for rebinding.
