A set of the 'Karla' Trilogy : 'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy', 'The Honourable Schoolboy' And 'Smiley's People'. All three titles are the First UK printings published by Hodder and Stoughton in 1974, 1977 and 1979 respectively. All three titles have been signed (without dedication) by the author to the title page. All three titles were signed at the same private signing event in 2019. Further details regarding this event can be supplied for provenance. Vol. 1) 'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy' : The BOOK is in Very Good++ or better condition. Light pushing at the spine ends. The gilt titling remains bright. Light toning and spotting to the text-block. Free from inscriptions. The WRAPPER is complete and is in Very Good++ condition. It bears the correct price of '£2.95' to the lower front flap. Light edge wear with the usual fading of colouring to the spine. The First UK printing published by Nisbet & Co. Ltd, London in 1920. Number '97' of 100 special deluxe copies signed by the artist to the limitation page. The BOOK is in near Fine condition with original white paper-covered boards with gilt titles to the front and a vellum spine with gilt titles. The vellum spine remains very clean and bright. The boards have lightly darkened in places to the edges. Internally clean and free of inscriptions. All ten tipped in colour plates and their printed tissue guards are present as called for and are in fine condition. The very scarce WRAPPER is complete and is in near Fine condition. The gilt titling and decoration remains very bright to the front cover. A small closed tear to the upper front edge and a little age related marking but it remains in exceptional condition for its age. The wrapper is protected in a removable Mylar archival cover. The First UK Printing published by Abelard Schuman, London in 1960. The BOOK is in near FINE condition. The correct First Issue with black boards and bronze coloured lettering to the spine. Light pushing at the lower spine tip. Free from inscriptions and erasures. The WRAPPER is complete and is in near FINE condition. It is neatly price-clipped and has also been clipped at the upper front flap fold corner as on issue, it was also jointly priced for the USA market as well. The wonderful wrapper artwork looks very striking in the removable Brodart archival cover. B/W illustrations throughout by Dick Hart. The First UK printing published by Faber and Faber, London in 1947. The BOOK is in Very Good++ or better condition. Original yellow cloth with gilt titling to the spine gilt on red ground. Cloth a little dulled with a few small rubbed spots. The binding remains tight. Text-block a little toned with a small stain to the lower text block which has just very slightly encroached onto the relevant lower pages. The WRAPPER is complete and is in Very Good++ condition with some rubbing and creasing in places with a small area of loss at the upper spine. A 3 inch closed tear to the front upper flap fold and a small tear to the upper edge of the rear panel. Small penned number to the upper front flap. The wrapper looks very attractive in the removable Brodart archival cover. There is a tipped-in colour frontispiece and four plates with sixty pages of monochrome plates and illustrations within the text - all in excellent condition. Original decorated cloth backed boards with the silk marker still present. Mild rubbing to the corners and a little pushing at the spine ends. Some light age related markings to the boards. Internally clean. No wrapper- as issued. Designed and decorated throughout by Edward Bawden who provides a striking cover design, title page and 53 B/W headers.
