Contemporary sheep-backed marbled boards, gilt-stamped lettering in red leather label on upper board; oblong 4to (296x304 mm); with title-p., 3 leaves of explanatory text, and 9 specimens of Italic, Roman, and Fraktur alphabets (13 leaves in all), written in black ink on laid paper. Spine heavily chipped, with gatherings exposed (but holding just fine); corners bumped; minor spotting throughout. Calligraphic manuscript in Danish, signed "P. E. Glahn, Stykjunker." A nicely accomplished guide to alphabet styles and sizes for use in cartographic text, apparently written by the Danish career military officer Glahn (1811-96) as an artillery cadet. Scuffing at spine tips, along joints and edges of boards; leather torn at rear joint of Volume II; frontispiece and title-page detached from Volume I, neatly laid in.

W. K. Kellogg, 1909. Paperback. Very Good. Staple-bound color pictorial wraps. Trifold, with full-color illustrations throughout, cut into flaps for creating a variety of silly animals. Covers lightly scuffed; eraser smudge and wrinkling along bottom edge of front cover. Charming and bright.

The University Press of Kentucky, 1982. Hardcover. Fine. Paper-covered boards. From the library of Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. (1909-2000), an American actor (his credits include “Gunga Din”) and a highly decorated naval officer of World War II. With a lengthy inscription to him, that begins, "You and I crossed the Adriatic one night in 1944..." it goes on to thank Fairbanks for introducing him to Jack Watson, "one of your Beach Jumpers," and signed Robert F. Houlihan. This volume includes an interview with Houlihan, in which he references the Beach Jumpers. With a TSL from Houlihan to Fairbanks, as well as photocopy (provided by Houlihan) of his inscription to Jack Watson. A very nice association copy.
