Description:
Forest Hills, LI, 1925. To Mr. DeLaitre, typed letter signed, one page, 10-3/8" x 6-3/4", 27 lines, signed in pen at the bottom, "Helen Keller" to Mr. DeLaitre. Evidence of quarter folds, else fine. Helen Keller (1880-1968), noted American lecturer and author, was blind and deaf from the age of two. She spent her life raising money for the blind and other social causes, especially working for The American Foundation for the Blind. In this early letter (she had graduated from Radcliffe in 1904), she announces that Dr. Henry van Dyke, as National Chairman of the American Foundation for the Blind, is "endeavoring to secure an Endowment Fund." She informs Mr. DeLaitre that she will be visiting his city soon to speak at "one or two meetings" and expresses a desire to meet him. This is fine letter, written early in Miss Keller's extraordinary career and is signed in pen -- quite unusual as her signatures are usually in pencil.
