Cary was a well-known English cartographer who began his career as an engraver in London, turning to publishing and land surveying in 1783. He is perhaps best known for his Universal Atlas, published in 1808. Fordham, a renown expert in the history of cartography, meticulously describes 300 of Cary's works.
