Description:
New York: Albert & Charles Boni, 1926. First edition, sixth printing. INSCRIBED, "To Bill Fountaine with the best wishes of his old friend. Jim Tully." A novel about the world of silent film era Hollywood. Jim Tully has largely been forgotten today, but during the 1920s and 1930s he was considered one of America's best writers, routinely ranked with Hemingway and Fitzgerald as a true American voice. "If Tully were a Russian, read in translation, all the Professors would be hymning him. He has all of Gorky's capacity for making vivid the miseries of poor and helpless men, and in addition he has a humor that no Russian could conceivably have." - H.L. Mencken. The book is very good or better with spine lettering a little faded and part of jacket cover and Fontaine's bookplate on front pastedown and some blurb, assume from jacket, pasted on back pastedown. Lacking dust jacket.

The book measures 6 x 9.5" and is printed in green, brown, and black on cream-colored paper. Title page vignette by Leo Wyatt. Bound in marbled wrappers. Clean, bright copy of this rare book, which is in very fine condition. Tipped in are "Ward Ritchie and Robinson Jeffers," a Ward Ritchie checklist of his Jeffers items, issued on the occasion of Ritchie's lecture at California State University, Long Beach, April 23, 1979, and the paper program or flyer issued for the lecture. The book is WR 10.
