Includes a biographical note, a select bibliography, a section of writings by the artist and an appendix of smaller monochrome reproductions of major paintings and drawings which do not appear in a larger form in the book itself. Original black cloth and metallic dust jacket with large colour photograph of the artist's work. Several creases on jacket as well as slight wear to edges, an otherwise very good copy.

Tokyo: Sinchosha Company 1998, 1998. First edition. 8vo. [658pp] Card covers in white decorated with red circle (i.e. the Japanese flag. Lettered in white (on red) to spine. Illustrated paper wrapper and publisher's band (obi). All in excellent condition with only the very slightest shelfwear. Illustrated throughout with almost no text apart from chapter headings in Japanese and English. Kurata's work is in the tradition of the photo-documentary. He captures, in both colour and black and white, everyday life in Japan from the mainstream to the counter-cultural. As Kurata writes in the introduction (text in English), these photographs were taken between the 1970s and the early 1990s and form "a nearly comprehensive survey of my "street photos" taken within the time and space of Japan". London: Printed by H.H.Jun for Hen Herringman and R.Bentley undated [c1695], 1695. Third edition. Quarto. 218x170mm. pp. 64. Paginates: [2], 1, 4-18, 91, 20-29, 20, 31-40, 33-48, 57, 50, 51, 60, 61, 54, 55, 64. Collates A-H4. Twentieth-century brown morocco by Riviere and Son, gilt dentelles, spine with five raised bands, title and author lettered in gilt in second compartment, marbled endpapers. Slight browning, short closed tear to E4 and a small ink mark to final leaf obscuring a few letters. Overall in excellent condition. Although Julius Caesar appeared in the First Folio of 1623, it did not appear separately in a quarto edition until 1684. A second edition was published in 1691 with four further undated editions appearing after this. The present copy is the first of these according with Bartlett's collation, pagination and catchwords for the third edition (save for p28 which is correctly numbered here). ESTC.
