A near fine copy.Sir Kenelm Digby (1603-1665) English courtier and diplomat, polymath, natural philosopher, astrologer, alchemist and leading intellectual described as "The Ornament of this Nation". Not only a founding member of The Royal Society and a promoter of sympathetic magic, he is credited with the invention of the modern wine bottle. He was awarded the Patent of Sealing Wax in Wales and the Welsh Borders. Digby's cookbook included a recipe for capons fed on the flesh of vipers. In 1627 Digby became a privateer, sailing his flagship The Eagle into the Mediterranean to attack, seize and plunder French and Spanish ships that came his way. This journal is the day to day log of the voyage.

Bookplate to fep., and small stamp The Oriental Book Store, Pasadena, Ca. Jeremiah Curtin (1835-1906) Linguist, folklorist, ethnographer, writer. Smithsonian Institution Bureau of Ethnology. Curtin made this journey in the year 1900 between the 19 July and 15th September, his object to visit the birthplace of the original Mongol race. Siberia, Lake Baikal, Olkhon, the Buriats, their customs, shamans, rites, myths, folk tales. He died shortly after finishing the manuscript, and this book was published posthumously.
