Dansville NY: Fowler & Whitaker, Dry Goods, 1874. Intact tear; stain and discoloration.. Palmer's Patent 1869. A 7 3/4" x 4" A leaflet promoting the Jacqueline Corset. Trademark images at top. It begins "Every Lady should exercise the utmost care in the selection of her Corsets. No article of a Lady's wardrobe is more important than this, --not only as a necessary adjunct to a perfect toilette, but as a means of preserving and enhancing the beauty and symmetry of the female form devine. If, on the other hand, she be not blessed with a well rounded and regular form, a Corset well and properly fitted will make a complete and wonderful change. Corsets should therefore be chosen with great deliberation, an all cheap and fanciful makes should be discarded in favor of such as have something besides cheapness and show to commend them." Description:
San Francisco, California: Lawton Kennedy, 1960. Very good. Minor flaws including toning, unobtrusive short tears, dust soiling, wear to extremities.. A remarkable archive of material created and collected by Jane Hohfeld Galante of the prominent San Francisco Hohfield family, including two original manuscripts and a scarce children's book privately printed for her by Lawton Kennedy. The privately printed book appears to be loosely based off of the manuscripts, illustrated by Alice Wilkins Neilson c.1960. Both the manuscripts and the book include short sayings and rhymes coined by Jane when she was young girl several decades before in the 1920s; they were previously written down by the girl's mother. There is also a small grouping of correspondence and a list tracking the dozens of presentation copies gifted from Jane to her friends from as far away as France and Japan. As a whole, the archive paints a charming picture of a young child's whimsical world view, brought forth into the world by her as…

Kobe, Japan: William Rae, 1930. General wear.. This tri-fold pamphlet details the Japanese wedding ceremony, starting from the arrangement of the couple by their family, to their wedding ceremony and what life for the bride is like after the wedding. He sold a variety of household goods, such as table wear, kitchenware, jewelry, cabinets and screens. While the store was located in Japan, the store sold items that were decorated in a variety of 'oriental' motifs, mainly directed towards a western audience. The front of the pamphlet has a colorful and stylized engraving of the Japanese wedding ceremony. The back has a list of items the store sold, as well as a directions on ordering items either by mail or in person at his store in Japan. The advert emphasizes that he had "over 1000 different sets, always kept in stock. Measures 7" x 5 1/4" (folded).
