London: Portobello Producations, 1990. No institutional copy located of this shooting script which has revised pages from 3 drafts of the screenplay and saw use by a cast member. Blue card wrappers with letterbox opening; closed tear above this probably removing an additional label previously stapled to the cover. Tape repairs overleaf. Binding secured by two flattened brads. Title page dated December 1st, 1990, Number '93' (probably copy number) to title page written in black ink. The script is made up of three papers stocks dated to October 31, 1990 (plain paper) November 7, 1990 (pink) and November 9, 1990 (pink and occasionally blue). Small stain to foreedge of last few leaves. A staple to p90 where an overlay has probably been removed; annotation to page 91 around the Porter's part at The Sawley Arms - Smiley's pub/ hotel in Carne where the movie is set. Yellow coated endpapers and twenty pages of advertisements - a mixture of steel engravings and half-tone photographs precede 100 pages of Classified Directory (more adverts) and the Diary proper, interspersed with pink blotting paper. The original owner has made brief entries in pencil and crayon through much of the first half of the Almanack. Worldcat yields one institutional holding only of this almanac at the BL. Very Good 1900

Paris: Apud Laurentium Cottereau, 1642. Good. [ff] 13 [lacking A1 half title] pp 1094 [ff] 20 Folio sized Paris printing of Cassianus's complete works. Bound in twentieth century quarter cream buckram over paper covered boards. The binding is discoloured and worn but structurally sound with a faded morocco label to the spine. Bookplate of St Stephen's House, Oxford to the front pastedown and ownership signature of 'N.P. Williams June 30, 1928' written below. The book begins with the title page with large inset etched vignette, but lacks A1 that precedes it, presumed to be the half title. The text is clean and concludes with the Privilege page which is dated 1641, but has an old water stain along the gutter for the final part of the book. Good 1642

1905: Vardon and Pritchard, 1905. Presentation copy inscribed by his widow Susanne Angas on the recto of the frontispiece: 'Mr Thomson with Kind regards from S. C. Angas'. Bound in the publisher's purple cloth, faded to spine, gilt crest to upper board. Green-coated endpapers and frontispiece with tissue guard. Illustrated throughout. Internally a very good copy. Angas 1823-1904 was an Australian pioneer in southern Australia and philanthropist to Adelaide University. Very uncommon signed, thus. Angas family papers held by the National Library of Australia which includes a letter book to a Mr J A Thomson, likely dedicatee of this presentation copy. London: Unpublished, 1792. No Binding. Near Fine. The Archbishop of Canterbury John Moore appoints John Thomas Batt administrator of his late brother's estate following his death intestate in 1791. The Reverend Charles William Batt, chaplain to the diplomat James Harris (Lord Malmesbury) had died of 'putrid fever' in Oxford and this document appoints his older brother, a lawyer, to dispose of his estate. The printed document is accomplished in brown ink and has the 'seal of the Prerogative Court of the Archbishop of Canterbury' with witness signatures of Richard Cheslyn Cresswell, Doctors Commons; James Townley, Richard Dodswell and George Goslling. John Thomas Batt was a well connected late eighteenth century lawyer in Wiltshire and London whose was himself close to James Harris. Near Fine 1792

Oxford: Lion Publishing plc, 1992. The Biblical story of Jonah and the Whale retold for children. The first hardback edition of this Lion picture story book, signed to the title page by the author and illustrator John Ryan. Near fine in glossy illustrated covers which are lightly scuffed and bumped to the corners. Colour from the blue end papers has transferred onto the title and final pages. John Ryan (1921 – 2009) was a British animator and cartoonist, best remembered for his character Captain Pugwash which began as a comic strip which spawned books and a TV series which was animated by Ryan in real time using a system of cut-out characters and boats, moved by hidden cardboard levers. We have acquired several of these animation models alongside Pugwash artwork and books at a recent sale of items from Ryan's estate. London: John Murray, 1840. Presentation copy to the pioneer of atomic theory inscribed 'Presented to John Dalton by J.H. Langston Esq.r May 10th 1843'. Large octavo in presentation binding of polished calf with two red morocco spine labels and the date at the tail of the spine. Scuffing to binding but otherwise a very good copy; all edges marbled; marbled endpapers, a little foxing to the preliminaries. Collation: pp506; cclvii; pp4 with foldout plate. J H Langston who has written the presentation inscription on the title page seems likely to be James Haughton Langston, farmer and M.P. for New Woodstock in Oxfordshire during the early 1840s when the presentation was made. No annotation. Admired nationally and beyond, Dalton had already suffered a stroke when this book was given him - despite his infirmity he continued his experimentation almost until he died in July 1844. 1840

[3] pp 4-192 An early nineteenth century Edinburgh reprint of Johnson's classic account of his 1773 visit to the Western Islands with his biographer and friend James Boswell. The book is half leather over paper covered boards. The binding is serviceable but the boards are rubbed and worn to extremities. The text is complete with foxing and some discolouration to the paper stock. There is a partly removed parish library bookplate on the front pastedown and very small parish library stamp obscured by a label on the title page. Good 1819
