Gray printed & illustrated softcovers, cover art lozenge illustration of shock absorbers (slight shelfwear), NF copy. First edition of this exceedingly scarce catalogue advertising “Joltless Motoring” shock absorbers, which were one of the earliest hydraulic dampers installed in automobiles, and dramatically improved handling and performance. These units were fitted to early leaf spring systems, and operated as twin-tube shock absorbers. Worldcat locates 1 copy (later edition, Branson Ford Research Center).

Warren, OR: Lovewell-Foto, 1910. Two silver gelatin photos sized 8 x 6 in. mounted on 12 x 10 in. gray studio board, embossed borders, and photographer’s imprint, caption, location & dating in neat white manuscript ink at lower border below the images (minor rubbing to corners, some very minor edgewear), still two VG photos with bright contrast. These two original images capture the prosperous dairy farming operation of Jacob Hammer (1858-1951) who along with his wife Barbara and eight children, ages 7 to 23 were renting a substantial farm, and just 5 years later purchased a much larger spread on Deer Island, in Columbia County, Oregon. The photographs appear to have been shot by John & Sarah Lovewell who worked as a husband & wife traveling photographers from about 1910-1915 along the Columbia & Willamette Rivers.

Blue cloth, gilt lettering front cover & spine, t.e.g. (minor shelfwear, very minor bumping to corners, minor wear), still a VG- copy. First edition of this excellent Civil War biography detailing the career of General Wadsworth who survived the debacle at the First Battle of Bull Run under General McDowell, received the command of the 2nd Brigade, 3rd Division I Corps, commanded the Military District of Washington, D.C., and was finally commander of the 2nd Division, II Corps at the Battle of Gettysburg. General Wadsworth’s Division bore the brunt of the Confederate attack on the first day of Gettysburg at the vanguard, suffering nearly 50% casualties, they then continued to fight at the defense of Cemetery Hill, and then Culp’s Hill. He was shot and killed later during the Battle of the Wilderness in May, 1864.
