Utah based artist, Mark Knudsen, was hired to hand-tint this illustration, that was intended to be printed in the corresponding calendar of the tenth-anniversary edition of the Monkey Wrench Gang, that was published by Ken Sanders' Dream Garden Press. When R. Crumb was presented this for his feedback, he was unhappy with the coloring. This illustration faces page 193. The tenth anniversary edition of the Monkey Wrench Gang contained illustrations throughout by the legendary illustrator, R[obert] Crumb. Robert Crumb (American b. 1943) is an American cartoonist and musician, who is well-known for influential works and contributions to the underground comix movement in the 1960s. Illustrated history on the California Missions. George Wharton James (1858-1923) was an author, lecturer and photographer who made his home in Pasadena and was active in the late 19th century and early 20th century. He was a member of the Arroyo community known for his studies on Native Americans, James was a prolific author who penned more than forty books including the classic guide: 'Grand Canyon of Arizona.'.

Inscribed by the author on the front free endsheet: "Luigi Variani with best wishes from Birger Sandzen." Signed again beneath the frontis portrait. This book includes 19 Sandzen captioned lithographs and woodcuts. Begins with a three-page appreciation of Sandzen by William Allen White. This edition was limited 1050 numbered copies. Birger Sandzen (1871-1954) was a Swedish born, American artist, who is renowned for his landscape paintings and prints.

Volume 12 in the ambitious and well received 'Kingdom in the West' series. This compelling documentary record presents the primary evidence that tells the story from its contradictory perspectives. Nice contrasts. View of the International Smelting and Refining operation near Tooele, Utah, under construction, with the Oquirrh Mountains in the background. International Smelting was a subsidiary of Anaconda Copper and opened in 1910, to handle some of the vast amounts of ore that were being pulled from the Bingham mine.
