A clean bright copy, inscribed in year of publication by the Author to actor Alan Webb,who was nominated for a Tony award for his performance in the play. Webb is pictured in two of the plates and the inscription is worth quoting : "Dear Alan, For doing this play and for your superb performance - my deepest thanks. You have no idea how exciting it is for a playwright to see a character so brilliantly realised. Watching you play "the old bastard" was one of the most satisfying experiences of my theatrical life, Affectionately, Bob". Jacket a little nicked & creased to edge, and slightly soiled to rear white panel. A Near Fine copy in Very Good jacket.

Original blind-stamped red cloth with gilt titles. Cover cloth a little discoloured and showing wear to extremities, with small split across head of spine. Inner front hinge tender but holding, endpapers lightly soiled. Overall a very good copy. An important work in the history of Shakespeare - the Author spotted that Collier's notes in the Perkins Folio were fraudulent and exposed his deception to the public. Scarce.
