Also a light indentation mark to the side text block. A small penned mark to the lower text block. Overall a near fine copy with this one being particularly rare due to the author's inscription on the front free end paper.  A very sharp copy of Capote's classic crime title. The non-fiction novel is about the brutal slaying of the clutter family by two  would-be robbers. It would be remembered as a trail-blazing experiment that has influenced many writers since. The book was successfully adapted into a film of the same name in 1967 and again in 2005 as the biographical portrait Capote. Sampson Low, Marston, Searle & Rivington. First editions published by Sampson Low, Marston, Searle & Rivington in 1890. In the original publisher's cloth with an elaborate gilt design and lettering to the spines. This two-volume set is in a bright and fresh, near fine condition. The binding has a trivial amount of wear to the corner tips and spine ends. A previous owner has written his name in pencil to the inside boards and added a small label with presumably a reference number for his library. Preliminary pages are uncut. All maps and illustrations present, the fold out maps have tears at the joins, which is not uncommon for this set. Stanley's account of his Emin Pasha relief expedition. It would be an ill-fated journey that would tarnish Stanley's name due to the behaviour of Europeans that were part of his team, and due to many lost lives. Rider & Co. First UK edition published by Rider & Co in 1937. This is a very good copy. The jacket is torn at the top and bottom of the spine and twice to the bottom of the back panel. There is chipping to the corners. It displays the price on the spine of 5/- net. The jacket is worn in places albeit scarce to find in any condition.  The book itself is in excellent condition with very clean boards and paper. There are minor foxing marks to a couple of pages. Overall a very good copy.  The Canadian travel writer claimed to have travelled into Tibet in disguise during the 1930's and then wrote two books about what he claims he saw, this was the first one 'In Secret Tibet'. His observations bore more than just a resemblance to Alexandra David-Neel's 'In Magic and Mystery in Tibet' published several years before. The is some toning to the spine but very little wear to the boards or pages. There is a previous owner's contemporary bookplate to the inside board. A small number of the preliminary pages are lightly foxed. The frontispiece is by Walter Crane. The jacket had very mild rubbing to the spine ends otherwise it is in excellent shape and not price clipped. The book has tiny rubbing to a corner otherwise likewise excellent. This copy is particularly rare as Brian Aldiss has signed the front free end paper and in addition has written out a Percy Shelly poem and renamed it "Ode to SF". The spine is dulled and the lettering without gilt. The corners have been pushed with some edgewear and the odd mark to the boards. The first and last couple of pages with light browning.  John Ambrose Fleming here explains how wireless telegraphy and telephony works. He writes in the preface that it is for the general reader to possess a brief sketch of the general principles. It has the correct price on the spine and is clean. The corners and spine ends have some wear. The book has a previous owners name to the front free end paper and a couple of indentations where someone has written in pencil. The pages have browned particularly to the text blocks with some light spotting.
