Description:
Sheldon Press, London, 1994. Reprint. Softcover. Near Fine Condition. Therapists do not and cannot give answers. Explore the true nature of the therapeutic relationship, and realize that the guru is no Buddha. He is just another human struggling. Understanding the shape of your own personal ills, will lead you on your journey to recovery. Sheldon Kopp has a realistic approach to altering one's destiny and accepting the responsibility that grows with freedom. Dr. Kopp argues that there are no hidden meanings in life & that our lives have only the significance which we give to them. Thus 'Killing the Buddha on the Road' means destroying the hope that anything outside ourselves can be our master. With quotes from Zen, Hesse, Mythology, Legend, the Bible & the I Ching this is not entirely the antithesis of spirituality that the title might suggest. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. 182 pages. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. no… Read More

Description:
Breedon Books Publishing Co. Ltd, Derby, Derbyshire, 1994. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Near Fine Condition/As New. IMAGES OF CAMBRIDGE is a unique picture of one English city during the 20th century. Spanning the period from the death of Queen Victoria to the present day, and with a glance forward to possible developments, the book covers Cambridge from King's College to the suburbs of King's Hedges, and from the first bus to the 'Green Bicycles'. It brings together photographs from a wide range of sources, from formal groups to family snapshots, most never before published in book form, and draws extensively upon the Cambridgeshire Collection at the Central Library in Lion Yard and the archives of the Cambridge Evening News. Looking behind the fine historic faces that help turn a relatively small town into a world city, the book charts the developments as they happened. It demonstrates slum clearance and house building, the growth of the Arbury estate, changing… Read More

Description:
Methuen, London, 1968. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Near Fine Condition/Near Fine. This collection of essays was originally planned as a sixtieth-birthday tribute to John Butt, formerly Regius Professor of Rhetoric and English Literature in the University of Edinburgh. The English novel was chosen as the subject in recognition of Professor Butt's long labour towards a new edition of the works of Charles Dickens. Professor Butt knew of the projected tribute, sealed with his approval its list of contributors, and took a lively and amused interest in its progress while he lived. When he did not survive to his sixtieth birthday, it was decided to carry on with the volume at a slower pace and make it the finest possible tribute to his memory. The twenty-three essays cover the range of English fiction from Congreve's early Incognita (1692) to Rayner Heppenstall's The Connecting Door and The Woodshed (1962). The coverage is necessarily .selective, and not every English writer… Read More

Athlone Press, London, 1989. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Near Fine Condition/Near Fine. This original and imaginative portrait of Dr. Johnson - the man and the writer - gets behind his public face and uncovers the human struggle out of which Johnson's moral view of life emerged. The author presents a challenging reading of the Rambler essays and Rasselas, unveiling the presence in these works of Johnson's inner life. BCA (by arrangement with BBC Books), London, 1993. Reprint. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Near Fine Condition/Very Good. For over a century, scientists have searched for proof that man survives death. In this book, and the BBC2 television series which it accompanies, Jeffrey Iverson looks for evidence of an after-life. Enquiries into the existence of psi powers which survive death of the brain include experiments in viewing at a distance where the odds against guessing correctly are billions to one, and the story of a team of psychics, led by a parapsychologist, who saw the infamous New York 'Son of Sam' killer. The author delves into mediums, seances and apparitions, including the incident of the ghostly warning that may have saved a ship in the 1942 Siege of Malta. He asks whether near-death experiences are the hallucinations of a dying brain, or whether those close to death actually leave their bodies. And are there children who can prove they have lived before Size: 8vo - over… Read More

privately published, Cambridge, 1996. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Near Fine Condition/Very Good. Signed by Author. How shall I describe my book? Perhaps as a profoundly European experience, told to friends in a happy after-dinner frame of mind. Description:
The Memoir Club, Spennymoor, County Durham, 2001. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Near Fine Condition/Near Fine. In this unconventional memoir Sir Giles Shaw illustrates why he was regarded, both in Yorkshire and in Parliament, as one of the great wits of his generation. This is a thoroughly entertaining book featuring a series of light-hearted tales, both amusing and astute, which will captivate even the least political of readers. He recounts the way he learned about politics and public speaking at his mother's knee. This was only natural, given that she was the first female County Councillor for the North Riding of Yorkshire and an ardent thespian. Boarding school. National Service and Cambridge University further encouraged his desire.to inform and entertain - as illustrated by some highly amusing speeches and ditties from his time as President of the Cambridge Union. After briefly describing tales from his early career as Marketing Director at Rowntree Mackintosh with… Read More

Description:
Mesa Verde Museum Association, Colorado, USA, 1961. First Edition. Softcover. Very Good Condition. Starting c. 7500 BCE Mesa Verde was seasonally inhabited by a group of nomadic Paleo-Indians known as the Foothills Mountain Complex. The variety of projectile points found in the region indicates they were influenced by surrounding areas, including the Great Basin, the San Juan Basin, and the Rio Grande Valley. Later, Archaic people established semi-permanent rock shelters in and around the mesa. By 1000 BCE, the Basket-maker culture emerged from the local Archaic population, and by 750 CE the Ancestral Puebloans had developed from the Basket-maker culture. The Mesa Verdeans survived using a combination of hunting, gathering, and subsistence farming of crops such as corn, beans, and squash. They built the mesa's first pueblos sometime after 650, and by the end of the 12th century, they began to construct the massive cliff dwellings for which the Mesa Verde National Park is best known. By 1285,… Read More
