The former nicely illustrated by Jonathan Shahn, the latter by his father, the formidable Ben Shahn. A very impressive collection of interviews with American blues singers and performers. A handsome copy of the November 1955 stated 3rd printing of Cary Baynes's rendering into English of Richard Wilhelm's renowned translation of the I Ching. Complete in 2 well-preserved volumes. Both volumes clean and Near Fine in bright, price-clipped, VG+ to Near Fine dustjackets, with a touch of light abrading along Vol. I's spine. Thick, uniform octavos, the iconic dustjacket design by the great E. McKnight Kauffer (1890-1954). The publisher's printed dark slipcase has also held up very nicely. Solid, sturdy and easily VG+ to Near Fine. Introduction by Carl Jung, #19 in the formidable Bollinger series. An impressive, very presentable example of this early iteration of Wilhelm/Baynes.

Haile Sellassie I and an accounting of current Rastafarian ideals. Circa 1980. A crisp, very sharp copy to boot. Clean and Near Fine to Fine in its stapled, pictorial wrappers. With articles including "Black Roots in a Babylon", "The Inspiration of Marcus Garvey as Received by I the Man Ras Judah Tafari in I Search for I Self", "Healing of the Nations", "Ganja in Jamaica", etc. Very uncommon.

Venice: Francesco Maredini, 1556. 132 woodcut illustrations and diagrams, 11-line woodcut initials, numerous 6-line initials, later parchment over contemporary vellum. 1st edition of Barbaro's translation and commentatry, with illustrations by Andrea Palladio (1508-1580) and possibly Guiseppe Porta Salviati (1520-1575) and Giovanni Antonio Rusconi (1520-1579). Barbaro's edition "is widely considered to be the most significant Italian edition of the treatise, the illustrations provided by Andrea Palladio, among others, are the most persuasive architecture illustrations associated with the Vituvian text". (Millard). Folio, armorial bookplate of Peter Delme Esq. to the front pastedown. Light, forgiveable soiling at the panels, loss of 40% of the spine's parchment, vellum beneath bright and clean. Decorative mottled edges, all plates crisp and attractive.

Internally immaculate, with no writing or markings to speak of. An impressive copy of one of Dr. Seuss's less common mid-career titles.

Written by Ann Rand, beautifully illustrated by the formidable Paul Rand. One of 4 wonderfully-designed children's books from the '50s and '60s that the Rands created together.

Self-published. Stapled wrappers. Very Good +. A wonderful, very inventive handmade artist's book, circa 1955. Created by the Italian architect Alberto Avanzati, who visited the United Sates in the early '50s and, in the tradition of European intellectuals such as de Tocqueville, Le Corbusier and Humbert Humbert, soon hit the road to tour the country. Along with his love of the open road, Avanzati shared another interest with at least one of his predecessors -- a fascination with the true American phenomenon of the roadside motel. Avanzati documented his trip and the motels he visited in this handmade book with ink and waterecolor plans and sketches of motels on the East and West coasts. His interest was not in the decor or how convenient the ice machine was but rather in the relationship between the motel and the car. 1912. Letters. Very Good +. A 1912 beige ALS from American architect Louis Sullivan ("the Father of Skyscrapers", "the Father of Modernism") to Walt Whitman biographer Horace Traubel. On Louis Sullivan's personal stationary, with the original autograph envelope. Ther letter measures 8 1/2" x 11" and is crisp, bright and very well-preserved. 2 neat folding creases and just a trouch of rubbing, otherwise clean as could be.
