Description:
Chez Jean Frederic Bernard, Amsterdam, 1717. Hardcover (Full Leather). Very Good- Condition. Book Sammelband of Two Huguenot Works, in French, paginated [6]-130, [ii]-254. Porrée originally published the first treatise (in English, "History of ceremonies and superstitions that have entered the Church") under the title of "Traité des anciennes ceremonies" ("Treatise of the old ceremonies") in 1646 with a second edition in 1662. It was reprinted a number of times, though an 1858 French language article reports this printing by Bernard was the first with this title. In it Porrée examines church worship for almost a millennium to discover the original purity of the ceremonies and thus answer those who challenged the French Protestants by asking, “Where is your religion before Calvin?" The second work was published in English with full title translated as "A preservative against the change of religion, or,… Read More

Description:
G. Lane & C.B. Tippett, New York, 1845. Third Ed., Revised and Corrected. Hardcover (Full Leather). Very Good Condition. Book Scarce matched set of Bang’s history, which chronicles Methodism from its introduction in New York City in 1766 up through the General Conference of 1840. Banks provides a tremendous amount of detail, including regular updates on membership. Each of the volumes has a frontispiece. This set went through several editions by various publishers from Mason and Lane’s First Edition in 1838 on. However, a complete set from the same printing is difficult to find. Although a WorldCat search found multiple holdings, most of them turned out to be only one or two volumes. Only two libraries (under two OCLC numbers) reported a complete set of the 1845 printing: William Clements Library at the University of Michigan (244673815) and the Claremont School of Theology Library (874344217). Size: 6"-7" - Sextodecimo (16mo). 4-volume set… Read More

Abraham Small, Philadelphia, 1824. First Edition. Hardcover (Full Leather). Very Good Condition. Book Sabin 44787; Howes M316. First edition, but without rear advertisement leaf. Written by the fourth and arguably most important Supreme Court chief justice. Originally published as Marshall's Introduction to his Life of George Washington, now issued in its first separate (and corrected) edition. In his Preface Marshall explains the reason for publishing his history of the colonies in a separate volume, in "a form less exceptionable than that which it originally bore" (p. vii): "From the extreme, I may add unpardonable, precipitation with which it was hurried to the press, many errors were overlooked which, on a perusal of the book, were as apparent to the author as to others. He was desirous of correcting these errors, and of making the work more worthy of the public to which it was offered, as well as more satisfactory to himself. For this purpose he . . . has made several… Read More

Description:
Imprint Society, Barre, MA, 1970. Limited Edition. Hard Cover. Collectible - Very Good/None as Issued. Book Signed by Editor. VG- HB with no slipcase. Limited Ed., #937 of 1,950. Signed letterhead card from McCorison presenting this copy with the note "Glad you like the book" pasted onto FEP. That plus nice selection of the leaf from the 1810 First Edition tipped in--the start of the history of Revolutionary-era publisher John Holt of the "Newyork Journal" (pp. 150-151)--makes this a desirable copy. However, it is marred by the fact the binding is broken (webbing visible, though still holding) at the half-title page. Size: Octavo (8vo; up to 9 3/4" / 20-25 cm tall). 650 pages. Item Type: Book. Quantity Available: 1. Category: History; United States / Revolutionary Period (1775-1800); United States; 1970s; Communications & Media. Signed by Editor. ISBN: 0876360096. ISBN/EAN: 9780876360095.
