This work is a detailed anatomical study of the head muscles of butterflies in the Papilionoidea. The final sighting was on the island of Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts. From the research collection of naturalist and conservationist Durward L. Allen (1910-1997) with his bold signature on the front endpaper. Under the signature is the statement “A gift from the Welder Wildlife Foundation Library.” No other ownership marks.

Pp. 2; 1 full page plate of Hemichirotes tridactylus (= Bipes tridactylus) that is hand-colored. Extract with no wrappers issued, lg 4to. From La Naturaleza, ser. 2, volume 2. Commonly known as the three-toed worm lizard, this species appears to be restricted to a small area close to the Rio Tecpan, in coastal Guerrero State, Mexico. It is a lowland species. Originally from the library of Karl P. Schmidt with his signature on the title page. Later from the library of George Sprague Myers with his circular name stamp and from Kraig Adler with his name stamp - all three ownership marks are on the title page. Rare work.

Hepatica is a genus of herbaceous perennials in the buttercup family, native to central and northern Europe, Asia and eastern North America. Anthoceros is a genus of hornworts in the family Anthocerotaceae. The genus is global in its distribution. Its name means 'flower horn' and refers to the characteristic horn-shaped sporophytes that all hornworts produce. Faint signature in pencil on the front wrapper. No other ownership marks.
