A handbill from 1818 promoting the candidacy of one Penrose Robinson, who was seeking to be elected Sheriff of York County, Pennsylvania. Robinson was a prominent local merchant. The handbill has been trimmed, affecting the border but not, we believe, the text.

Santa Monica, California: Printed at The Light Finger Press, 1955. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good binding. Two hand-lettered books, by Paul Sorel, and published through The Light Finger Press, 1955; numbered 10 and 22 respectively. Sorel was an American Impressionist active in the Santa Monica literary and artistic scene of the late 50's and early 60's, and an intimate of Christopher Wood, the socialite and author. Also a close companion of Christopher Isherwood, the English novelist and professor at Los Angeles State College, Sorel is known to have painted a portrait of Don Bachardy, and written a poem titled "For Christopher Isherwood" in 1975; Isherwood's personal estate also contained at least one of the same hand-lettered books as these (Spider's Web, Lyrics now located at The Huntington). One of 300 numbered copies, in half-parchment over paper-covered boards; with hand titling inked by Rudolf Koch; top edge gilt. With title and chapter numbers cut by Koch in wood and printed in red with the colophon in blue; the German type designed by Koch.

Globi-Verlag: Zurich, 1944. First Edition. Very Good binding. With the splendid illustrations of the Swiss graphic artist Herbert Leupin. There are no marks of any kind in the book. Bound in pictorial boards backed in blue cloth. The boards have minor shelfwear. Discreetly rebacked; the textblock extrudes a small amount beyond the boards. Very Good binding.

Very Good binding. 16mo; four stapled booklets in the publisher's colorful printed cardstock wrappers; [2] 3-24; [2], 3-15, 1 blank page; 1-24; [2], 3-14; with advertisements for other works by Dr. Taylor on the recto of the rear cover. The pamphlets housed in a worn and chipped printed envelope.~~Sayle Taylor was radio host on CBS, NBC, and Mutual in the first half of the 20th Century. With "How to Know your Affinity: A Study of Glands," "Facts for Wives: Plain Truths about Marriage," "Sex Knowledge for Children: A Parent's Duty to the Child," and "Natural Birth Control and Predetermination of Sex." A bit of medical quackery, giving such advice on personal glandular affinities, how often to douche, how to use "the talk" to avoid juvenile delinquency, and which ovary produces male eggs and which female. ~~Dr. Sayle Taylor was the President of the Hygenic Oricicial Co., Inc. in Chicago. A handsomely bound Roycroft production, in three-quarter brown levant over marbled boards; with raised bands the gilt decoration to the spine. With a silk ribbon marker. In the original folding, felt-lined clamshell box which still has title label. There are no marks in the book, though there is a trace of foxing. With two mounted photographs -- one of Hubbard, and one of Hubbard with his wife. Near Fine binding.
