Sitges: Cole & Contreras, 2005. In 1980, shortly after taking up printmaking, Masafumi Yamamoto produced two absolutely astonishing erotic engravings of female nudes, still the only erotic works in his entire oeuvre. They are incredibly detailed and precise--yet extremely imaginative--burin engravings printed in relief (photos avalable on request). In 1981 he printed the editions and signed, dated, and justified the prints. Soon afterwards, Yamamoto adopted his well-known style of color intaglio printmaking. Since the erotic prints were so different, he abandoned them in a drawer of his flatfile for over two decades. Finally, in early 2005, the prints were published, each alongside erotic an erotic hai-ku by Cole, the publisher. Barcelona: Imprempta de F. Giró, 1910. ONE OF ONLY 25 COPIES. First edition of the first Catalan translation of Hamlet, done by noted litterateur and folklorist Antoni Bulbena i Tosell. ONE OF ONLY NUMBERED 25 COPIES PRINTED ON EXTREMELY FINE LAID PAPER, SIGNED BY THE TRANSLATOR. 144 pp. Large 8vo. A PRISTINE COPY IN THE ORIGINAL PRINTED WRAPS, ENTIRELY UNCUT AND UNOPENED, AND EXTRAORDINARILY RARE AS SUCH (almost all large-paper copies from that era have been bound since). Wraps a bit spotted as always, else FINE AND BRIGHT. A rare survival, and a great prize for the Shakespeare collector who has (almost) everything.

One of only 650 copies printed. Four-page price list for show of Meid's prints, which accompanied publication of this volume, laid in. Large 4to, publisher's cloth. Paris: Inter Nos", 1943-1945. A COMPLETE SET--PERHAPS UNIQUE--OF THE FOUR BOOKS PUBLISHED BY "INTER NOS" IN PARIS DURING WORLD WAR TWO, THE FIRST TWO OF WHICH WERE ISSUED DURING THE OCCUPATION. The first three are EXTREMELY RARE because of the tiny edition sizes (by the time the fourth was published, the Germans had surrendered, so a somewhat larger edition could be printed). While many livres d'artiste were printed in France under the Occupation, they were subject to Nazi censorship, and thus limited themselves to uncontroversial subject-matter. The image involved is an equestrian portrait, in which the artist changed the face according to his immediate needs. A unique episode in the history of printmaking. Fully illustrated. A little wear to binding and some light foxing on the title-page, but overall a very good, uncut copy.

Lyon: Cercle Lyonnais du Livre, 1949. The last book illustrated by Falke, who in fact died before it was published. With a suite of 14 original etchings printed on seven double folio sheets. In these etchings Falke achieves a spontaneity and economy of line reminiscent of the style of Matisse and Dunoyer de Segonzac. Edition limited to 150 numbered copies beautifully printed on fine, stiff handmade Montval wove paper, with the etchings printed on an equally fine but considerably softer paper made by the same manufacturer. This copy was originally printed for Dr. Fernand Lemaitre of the Cercle Lyonnais du Livre, and was later owned by Luis de Caralt, the Barcelona publisher who was Spain's leading collector of modern illustrated books.
