Paste-downs with traces of an old paper cover, news cutting on front endpapers. A good copy and rare in this original condition and with the maps and pedigree intact (one map has a short repaired tear in the usual place).

Manchester, W. D. Varey, 1828, two parts, Rochdale and Saddleworth, each with tile page and frontispiece of the respective parish churches. Contemporary half calf with marbled boards, very expertly re-backed. Covers a bit dull and rubbed, name inside, some staining mainly to the endpapers, but very sound condition. Bound at the back is Tabula Mancuniensis a rare 16 page pamphlet by Butterworth published in 1829 listing chronological events in the history of Manchester.

Bound in contemporary, probably original calf which is a bit rubbed and chipped at spine ends. Contents a bit browned and thumbed, but a sound reference copy.

Ashton,1842, pp. (2),177,v. Plain binder's cloth without lettering, tape repairs to first leaf of text, last page a bit marked. A sound working copy of a scarce title. Not to be confused with the book which his father James wrote on Ashton. Presentation inscription from John Ross Culthart, a prominent banker in Ashton to the Venerable Archdeacon Rushton.

Published by the Author, 1946. Original card covers. Very good condition.

Preston, Worthington, 1857, pp. xvii, 687, many engravings and a folding map (creased, but complete). Original blue cloth, gilt edges, spine dull and rubbed, but still tight and sound. A unique copy inscribed on the title page "with corrections and annotations by the author, Charles Hardwick 1876", also an inscription inside the front cover "J A Eastwood, 24 April 1877. from the Author". Numerous notes and corrections in ink throughout. Plates with dampstains to lower corners.

Local Historian Ernest Axon's copy with his signature and loosely inserted notes. Four original drawings of local buildings and scenes by W Pownall dated 1888/89 pasted to the endpapers. Contents a little well used by Axon, but a sound and interesting copy.

Original cloth, spine faded and a little rubbed at head and tail, small patch of fading to back cover, but good, sound condition. Previously in the collection of local historian W J Smith with loosely inserted notes and cuttings, also two photographs he took of the plaster ceilings in Standish Hall in 1972 shortly before it was demolished.
