Re-backed, covers faded, chipped with loss to fore-edge of upper cover and with small amount of loss to fore-edge of lower cover and lower corner, previous owners name and date in ink to head of upper cover. Internally lightly foxed to title, text with light sporadic foxing, mainly to fore-edge margin, but generally fairly clean. Signed by the author, 'From the author E. Blunden', to the blank page preceding the text. Now housed in a velvet lined cloth drop back box made by Temple Bookbinders, with the title to spine and upper cover. Kirkpatrick notes that two hundred copies were printed. This being Kirkpatrick A4 and A5 bound together with a cancel title, Kirkpatrick A6 designating it as first edition, second impression. Internally lightly browned, a few light spots of foxing, but generally clean, a few small ink spots to fore-edge of text block, piece excised from head of ffep, with some old ink notes to fep, the rear blanks have had an additional index added in an old hand in pen. Engraved title, folding map and folding illustration tipped in at page 184. Contemporary red morocco, raised bands, spine in six panels, author in gilt to second panel, remaining panels decorated with volutes and small tools, covers with panel design, an inner oval surrounded by a lozenge made up of volute and small tools, inside a triple fillet and dotted line inner panel, with flower head corner pieces, with another triple fillet and dotted line outer frame, gilt roll to edges and inner edges, a.e.g. with combed marbled endpapers. Small repair to head of spine, slightly rubbed to extremities, especially spine ends and outer joints.
