Attractive copy with considerable detail and useful information about visiting Greece. This volume contains 21 maps, many folding, including those of Ancient Greece, Rhodes, Thermopylae, and the Island of Ithaca.

This is a detailed little guide book with substantial information on the country of Spain. There are numerous folding maps, including a large map in the rear of Spain and Portugal.

A well packed guidebook of Italy with plans and itineraries, and an alphabetical index in the rear. Also contains several maps, including a large folding map of Rome.

Pamphlet, 8vo, original printed wrappers, illustrated, 20 pp. Slight aging; near fine. Classic view of dinosaurs and the dinosaur exhibit before it was renovated in the 1990s. The brochure was written by Fredrick A. Lucas, and includes among the illustrations are a couple of paintings by Charles Robert Knight. Knight's paintings gave shape to those dinosaur bones for generations. . A rather scarce item from one of America's favorite museums.

Pamphlet, 3 1/2 x 6, pictorial wrappers, stapled, illustrated, 55 pp. Slight wear, and slight bend to some pages, but very good to near fine. This little guide book to Alaska contains an amazing amount of information on the vast territory, and its towns and cities, as well as how to travel around it. Contains a couple of small maps to help the reader get around, and even includes a rail schedule, too. Additionally, there are a number of small black and white photos that illustrate Alaska at the turn of the last century.

16mo, (6 ½" x 4 ½"), cloth with lettering on spine and front cover, no dust jacket, illustrated, 174 pp. Inscription on front endpaper, normal aging and browning; otherwise very good. This is more a geological title than travel guide. The illustrations are all black and white, embedded in the text, and present geological material.

Folio, 12 1/2" x 10 1/2", stitched covers, illustrated. Spine a little rough, some edgewear, corner folds, normal aging and browning; otherwise very good. A charming story of a day in the life of three farm children. Shows them doing chores, having meals, and saying prayers. Nicely illustrated by Janet Laura Scott.

Folio, newspaper, illustrated, 25- 40 pp. Chips, small tears and folds in margins, a little aging and browning; otherwise very good. Great issue, that includes a Thomas Nast Cover on the addressed the "Virginius Affair." We almost went to war with Spain after they captured the American ship Virginius, and the Spanish, who believed they were helping the Cubans, executed over 50 American as pirates. A small second Nast cartoon is on the rear cover.

Rebound, later blue cloth morocco spine label, illustrated, 289-432 pp. (143 pages). Issue rebound in later cloth, some minor foxing, aging and browning; otherwise very good plus. Included in the August 1868 issue of Harper's Monthly, Thorpe's article begins on page 401, and covers the custom of dueling in an 11-page article. Thorpe (1815-1878) was a well-known travel writer and humorist, and drew on stories and personal experiences for this article. He presents a very informed account of the subject, and even gives detailed information on specific duels, including those that involved Jim Bowie, S.S. Prentiss, T.B. Hill, and Henry Clay. There are several other articles in this issue, including "The Streets of Washington," "John Bull in Abyssinia," "The Woman's Kingdom" and "Among the Andes of Peru and Bolivia."

Folio, newspaper, illustrated, 33-48 pp. Some chipping, tears and soiling to edges. spine and margins, some creasing to front page, especially near middle column, occasional staining, normal aging and browning; otherwise about very good. This issue, which was published shortly after the Civil War, has some excellent illustrations, including a couple of cartoons by Thomas Nast. There is also a full-page illustration of American beauty, featuring headshots of women. Another full-page illustrations shows the sentencing of Eduard Ketchum for forgery.

Folio, newspaper, illustrated, 353-368 pp. Chips, tears and folds in margins, spine and edges, a couple of pieces missing from margins throughout, but not affecting text or images, some aging, finger soiling and browning to contents, despite its faults this issue is in basically good shape. This issue contains two Thomas Nast cartoons. One illustrates the loss in value of Confederate money. A full-page engraving shows the burning of the Academy of Music in NYC. Another full-page engraving presents an early military steam ship.

Folio, newspaper, illustrated, 225-240 pp. Chips and small tears in margins, a little staining or soiling, normal aging and browning; otherwise very good. This is a well-illustrated issue with a number of wood engravings, including a double page and three full-page illustrations. One of the full-page illustrations concerns the Fenian Uprising in Ireland. Another series of illustrations on features African hair fashions. More importantly, this issue includes a significant Thomas Nast cartoon about Reconstruction and voting rights. This cartoon shows a black man with a vote permit, and a white man representing the Confederate States of America, without a vote.

Six issues, and one page, folio, illustrated. Removed, disbound, some sheets separated, a little staining to some issues, not consecutive issues, normal aging and browning; otherwise in about good condition. All issues are from Vol. XIL, including issues 585, 586, 587, 589, 590, 596 and one page from the April 4, 1868 issue. The one page features a couple of engravings concerning the impeachment, and the image of a ticket that admits the holder into the proceedings. Long before the Clinton impeachment, and current discussions about Trump, President Andrew Johnson was impeached and came very close to getting convicted. A major reason, were his efforts to implement President Lincoln's plan for reconstruction, which brought him into conflict with Congress, who wanted a more punitive approach. This lot is sold as a small collection.

Folio newspaper, extracted, illustrated, 369=384 pp. Disbound, some pages separated, double page illustration torn and separated a bit at the center with some loss, normal aging; otherwise about good. This issue features Secretary of State William H. Seward on the cover. This issue contains a short article on the capture of Jefferson Davis. Also, double page panoramic view of Richmond based on a photograph of Alexander Gardner. Included is an almost full-page picture of Major General William T. Sherman.

Thick folio, leather spine and corners, illustrated. Covers detached and several front and rear pages are attached to covers, which makes volume partially disbound, volume is heavy and thick, which put too much pressure on joints and binding, missing upper portion of backstrip, binding worn in places; internally bright and clean. Rather scarce edition of Harper's that is packed with photographs and illustrations. Good coverage of the Spanish American War. A few illustrations by Remington, and since this volume actually includes the first week of 1899, the first part of a series by H.G. Wells, "When the Sleeper Wakes", is included. There is also a Stockton story, which has some color illustrations in the 1898 Christmas issue, but pagination is incorrect. Like other copies it shows pages 1235-1239 as missing, however, the story and volume are complete. Photographs of Pope Leo XIII and the Harvard football team can also be found in this volume.Extra postage required.

The main article talks about the fate of Jefferson Davis. The cover features Secretary of State William H. Seward, and thee is also a large wood engraving of General William T. Sherman. A double-page engraving of Richmond is also included. Interestingly, there is a short article about "Base-Ball." Seems the Athletic Base-Ball Club of Philadelphia was coming to New York to play local teams.

A richly illustrated issue of Harper's that includes a map showing General Hancock's operations in the Indian Country. This issue includes a full page Thomas Nast on infanticide. There are a couple of other full-page engravings, one with an Asian theme.

Folio, newspaper, illustrated, 657-672 pp. Chips, small tears and folds in margins and edges, a little soiling and darkening, normal aging; otherwise very good. The cover feature for this week's Harper was on Garibaldi and his efforts to bring a just government to Italy. He is presented in a wood engraving on the front page. Also on the front page is an illustration of a pneumatic railway, which was part of an exhibition at The American Institute in New York. There is a short article on the invention's potential. This issue includes several large wood engravings, including one on a reception for General Sheridan in Union Square.

Newspaper, illustrated, 433-448 pp. Chips, small tears and folds in margins, spine and edges, some aging and browning to contents, despite the ragged appearance around the edges; content is in basically good shape. While there are a number of interesting illustrations in this issue, the most significant is a full page engraving by Thomas Nast on the Uprising in Italy. There is a smaller illustration of a duel in New Orleans on page 445.
