Boards rubbed. Volume 1 has a stain to the lower corner of the FFEP. Occasional foxing. Some wrinkling to cloth on spine and light soiling to back boards. Square spine. Some tanning to front and rear boards. Partial DJ with original cutout of DJ front and DJ spine placed over blue paper to create complete wrap. A semi-autobiographical novel declared "unfit to read" for its sexual content by the Society for the Suppression of Vice, who asked the publishers to "discontinue its circulation"; they basically complied and the book didn't receive wide distribution until 1923. Red leather binding, gilt textblock edges, metal clasps, decorative endpapers, bookmark ribbon, eight (8) black and white plates. Edge wear to boards, hinges, and spine. Some cracking at the hinge between flyleaf and rear of frontispiece. Two surface scratches to front cover, not indented. Light foxing to the plates. Interior and text are clean. Book is firmly bound and square.

Ownership inscription on FFEP. A very nice copy in a like jacket.
