Gentle rubbing to extremities of mount. Nice contrasts. Glendale was the home of the Hecla Consolidated Mining Company, dating back to 1872. In early records and newspapers, you will find reference to the 'Hecla Mining District,' the 'Trapper District,' and the 'Bryant Mining District,' all of which are one in the same. This district held four towns on the side of Lion Mountain: Trapper City, Lion City, Glendale and Hecla. Glendale was considered the most civilized of the four and boasted the Montana Brewery and a general merchandise store. The discoveries of the Hecla District would become one of the leading silver producing mines of the west. In 1875, a 40-ton smelter was built, producing nearly one million ounces of silver and thousands of tons of lead and copper annually. Unfortunately, the district was… Read More

There were four ocean liners christened S.S. Lurline by Matson Lines, these menus were for the fourth ship with that name. The S.S. The Hawaiian port was Honolulu, where most passengers would disembark the ship and make a beeline for Matson's renowned Waikiki hotel and resort, the Royal Hawaiian. Eugene Francis Savage (1883-1978) was a trained sculptor and artist, who was primarily known for his large murals. Savage was commissioned by Matson Navigation Lines to paint nine large (4' x 8') Hawaiian themed murals, that were intended to be displayed on Matson ocean liners. Signed by the author and the series editor on the half-title, with the volume prospectus laid in. Volume 7 in the ambitious and well received 'Kingdom in the West' series. From 1846 to 1857 Mormons played a prominent and crucial role in shapingevents in California and the West. They were the first American settlers of San Francisco. Without them John Sutter would probably not have built his sawmill, and gold would not have been discovered in 1848. Mormons were present at the first gold discovery, made many of the initial 'Strikes,' and accumulated some of the first fortunes in the gold fields. They opened new routes between California and the Great Basin. Clark & Brunet 12.
